I don’t know specifically about this group, but there are several groups engaged in this particular endeavor. They are working with the blessing and the backing of the US State Department.
After Afghan Rescue Crew evacuated those people from Afghanistan, where did they take them? To the United States Air Force Base in Ramstein, Germany. From there, they have gone or will go to the United States. That is all in the (full of) Hot Air story.
It makes sense to do it this way. If the US government had requested we be allowed to send in military transport aircraft to pick up evacuees, the Taliban would have certainly said no. Otherwise they would be perceived as weak. By allowing civilian aircraft, connected to civilian groups, they come off as compassionate. An image they are trying to project to the rest of the world; reality based or not.
