He is a POS of the highest degree, but he is the sacrificial lamb of the NFL owners and has helped the league make insane profits. He worked long and hard trying to squash everything that was coming forward about the long term effects about concussions. I personally collected more than my fair share of them in my younger days and they are no joke. F**k Roger Goodell, I would pay good money to see him used as a tackling dummy.
I am sure there are plenty of guys at the age that remember the term "punch drunk" to refer to fighters that showed damage from repeated hits to the head. For the longest time it was thought boxing was the only sport where the fear of long term brain damage was a possibility. Roger Goodell wanted to keep it that way.

The commish gets paid in part to represent the league as a face leader, and also to deal w/ bs from coaches like Gruden, agents, and the public vitriol.
In the NBA, I haven't been completely happy with the evolution of old-school ball -->Today's style , but I've always liked Stern and Silver.

It's ok. He's a Democrat. The rules don't apply to them.

A lot of the talking heads today are saying Gruden was a target of someone in the NFL. All those e-mails that were went through investigating the Washington formerly known as Redskins team and Jon Gruden was the only one to take a hit. Doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.

...."Gruden said in an email that Goodell shouldn't have pressured then-St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher to draft "queers," a reference to Michael Sam."
A coach was pressured ? Nothing to see here.

Never say never.
They said Michael Vick was done.

Different situation, white guys that did what Gruden did have been getting canceled for decades. The Michael Vicks of the world usually get one more chance.

Fisher has denied that, and even if he hadn't I would find it very hard to believe.

Virtue(or lack thereof) aside, it will chill tons of citizens that a man fell to ruin because of comments made in 1 on 1 correspondence with a friend. Whatever the platform.
I think Gruden's plight, in particular, has the potential to change the tone and manner in which massive numbers of people communicate.

There is no such thing as 1on1 email, or any written or otherwise recorded, correspondence. The recipient can share it with anyone they choose.
People need to accept responsibility and police their own actions.

I'm sure he doesn't want to look like a puppet. Draft picks, even 7th round, have real value in the NFL and I seriously doubt anyone wasted a pick to appease the commissioner. Most had him slotted in the later round of the draft, exactly where he went.

Indeed. And my point was this incident will drive that home to many, many, people who have long corresponded under the delusion of privacy. I just don't think potential disclosure really crosses the minds of most persons when texting or emailing personal friends.
None of my post is intended to endorse or even address the nature of Gruden's comments-only a commonly held misconception about privacy.
Incidentally, there are specific instances wherein the recipient can not legally record and share.

Means zero to those with an agenda and/or nothing to lose.
A friend is a high powered entertainment attorney. He advises his clients to NEVER use email, text or such. He only communicates in person and privileged. He has made a fortune because most don’t follow his advice.
