Tampa has had the Red Sox number all season and I don't see that changing.
If you are going to criticize the starting pitchers of the Red Sox...it's only fair that you would provide us with a brief comment about your opinion of the Rays' starting pitchers. Can the group of Yarbrough, Wacha, McClanahan, and Hill be called anything but PATHETIC?

I've got a wonderfully precise mathematical way of handicapping these baseball games, Mark. If only I could get these teams to follow it...

I've watched just about all of the Red Sox games this year, so I am very familiar with the team. The Rays not so much. Head to head, the Rays are just a better team and are very clutch. They do a terrific job of timely hitting. Not a fan of Meadows in left but he seems to up his game against Boston. Their bullpen has been lights out against the Red Sox. Since the all star game, the Red Sox 'pen has been inconsistent at best and atrocious at worst.

overall pitching stats 2021

ERA
TB 3.70
BOS 4.27

Opponent BA allowed

TB .232
BOS .257

OBP allowed

TB .294
BOS .331

More info on the Red Sox...

Since the All Star Game the 'SOX have faced the Rays 13 times with the Red Sox losing 9.

They have a below .500 record against all AL playoff teams

3 wins 4 losses against the White Sox
2 wins 5 losses against the Astros
8 wins 11 losses against the Rays

this game looks like its more important for the Red Sox to win without going deep into their bullpen. their best set up man right now, Houk, pitched 4 or 5 innings in the second game and probably won't be ready to pitch again until game 5. i don't know why they make such a big deal of pitch counts, but they do!

now if the series goes to game 5 and if it was up to me, I would start Houk instead of Chris Sales. but i am not the one calling the shots!

Sorry to jimmyb and the Rays losing the series vs the Red Sox

The matchups now for World Series are (for me)
Red Sox vs Giants
Astros vs Dodgers
Red Sox vs Dodgers
Astros vs Giants

I don’t mind the Braves but just think that the Giants and Dodgers are much better team(s) vs them. So we will see what happens

Giants eliminated on the worst umpire call that anyone is ever likely to see.

I've never seen a worse one, at the worst possible time.

my cynical side of things thinks that umpire either wanted to get out of the place before the game could possibly go to extra innings, or he or one of his friends bet the Dodgers for big money as the slight underdog.
