rain forecast for Friday and Saturday at Santa Anita
Here we go again- as we know, Santa Anita doesn't like to run in the rain, and there's rain forecast for Big Cap weekend. We'll see what they do.

Looks like rain in the morning to mid afternoon on Friday so Saturday should be fine. Crazy that it will be around 85 today..

passing showers unlikely to much affect the racing
the Saturday Big 'Cap day card does look very nice, however.
Express Train is interesting. With the 1/4 mile classic distance, they start with the chute and have a long run to the first turn. Given his aggressive San Pasqual, he'll probably be closer to the pace than usual in here.

Regarding the 1st race at Santa Anita on Friday, with California's rule of state-bred allowance winners getting to re-clear the condition if they're running on a different surface, will horses who already won the NW1x on dirt be automatically scratched if the race comes off the turf? If not & they win at the level for a 2nd time, will they continue to be eligible to enter at the same class in turf races going forward? Wonder if all these scenarios have been thought through by the racing office already.

Can they do that without redrawing the races?

Shockingly, they have (although I don't know if they passed an English grammar course).
From the Santa Anita condition book:
If the race is taken off the turf, and the horse that has already won condition on dirt, the horse is still eligible to run regardless of surface switch change. If race is taken off the turf, and the horse that has already won condition on dirt, wins that race that was originally scheduled for turf, that horse will no longer be eligible for comparable race on turf.

Thanks for digging that up, and props to the racing office for having foresight. Moot point for this Friday after all.

Given the number of starters that Santa Anita has been getting in its races, I suppose the bigger surprise isn't that they canceled the card but that they scheduled a makeup day.

Why would they cancel the Friday card?
There is no rain in the forecast in the next 10 days for Arcadia CA.
Hard to believe how dumb these people are.

I hope they don't move the 3rd race on Saturday off the turf.
