Sadly, true. When we cancelled Wednesday's program, it not only gave us an infusion of entries that morning, but afforded me some extras that we stand a good chance of filling for upcoming cards.

Similar will happen at Churchill given they decided to run five days a week in June and now don't have an operable turf course. Big fields for ten races on Sunday. They will probably lose one or two days next week as well.

I suspect lasix doesn't do them any favors in the heat.
FYI, I noticed FanDuel chose to run on Tuesday during a reported 97° air temperature.

It is very odd how some tracks choose to run in extreme weather conditions and some don’t. It wouldn’t surprise me if it has something to do with insurance coverage stipulations on the horses and/or jockeys.

CD cancelled tonight's card per TVG just now.
Expecting even hotter for next week.

I think the heat has gotten to this board this week. It's been especially feisty.

Based on the weather reports, next Wednesday and Thursday look very iffy.

The weird one for me has always been the Sacramento Fair meet in California, which traditionally runs in the summer in the daytime when Sacto temperatures are often close to 100 every day. Even watching on TV, the horses sweat madly before the races and get heavily hosed off after the races. There must be a better way.

Personally I like when they cancel weekday cards
Most of my betting is done on weekends. But some of the horses that run in those races run during the week. So I still have to review replays and make bias notes etc.. for those weekday cards at a number of tracks. The fewer the better. These days I’d rather spend my time binge watching some silly series I enjoy. Stranger Things is my latest.
