Off Turf
Did anyone consider that it rained all night in Baltimore and they want the course to dry out for the two big days coming up?

It stays wet if they run on it?

No but the course gets dug up. It’s a pretty uneven course to begin with

Hot days in the North are much more problematic than Gulfstream.
The horses are treated differently at GP with electrolytes and salt licks.
Other factors are barometric pressure and humidity.
What's really difficult is fluctuations from morning to night.
When I was a Safety Steward on the Nor. Cal. Fairs many horses would start their day at Golden Gate in 55 degrees. Later that afternoon they'd run at Pleasanton where it was often over 100.
That caused a ton of heat related problems.
Some trainers have told me to not worry about performance on a super hot day. They feel the ill effect will be recovery time.
I also worry about jocks that have to reduce and ride in the oppressive heat.
It flies in the face of safety in that all people should stay fully hydrated on hot days. But reducing is totally counter to that.

I was once told the it's not the tightness of the turns at Pimlico. It's the degree of banking being slightly flatter. Horses right next to the rail can hug it and skirt around. While others drift because they are dealing with the extra energy of fighting the centrifugal force giving the inside a big advantage.
Don't know if it's accurate but seems to make sense.
Opinions?

I've heard that about the banking, and seen satellite photos of Pim nested into CD and the turns look the same, it's just CD track looks wider.

I worry about the horses and jockeys on Saturday at Pimlico. I also worry about that infield s$it show and how the amount of drinking mixed with dangerous heat will play out. Good luck to everyone.
