Email from Horse Tourneys:

Residents of the states of Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Washington, Wyoming, and Vermont are not eligible to withdraw funds from account balances. However, those players may participate in all contests for the purposes of pursuing entries only to on-site events through qualifying contests (such as the NHC and HPWS).

It looks like a full court press is on with the Nevada State Gaming Control Board leading the pack.
New Jersey has a much bigger mountain to climb now, their only hope is to have the federal law changed.

At this point there isn't any bigger mountains to climb, there is a strong possibility that the law may now be changed to allow NJ racetracks and casinos to accept sports wagering. You can post all the emails you want but the future looks very good for NJ sports wagering. Sorry to rain on your parade!

Please show me where I did MMQ as you stated. You can roam the archives and go back as far as you wish. If you recall a previous post I made a letter written by me to various politicians backed monmouth 100%. Last time I looked that would include Mr. Drazin. As stated before I was so much behind MP it cost a political party my affiliation. The best response I received was from Jennifer Beck who unfortunately doesn't represent my district.

I'm not knocking that he took over the track operations as you have stated "it was a dark time". He absolutely deserves credit for that after Bailey backed out. I want Monmouth to succeed but only if its a level playing field. Is that really too much to ask.

Please don't tell me this article drew at bare minimum a shade of doubt how the deal went down.

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/201...ck_privat.html

It would be interesting to see how many hours were billed (if any you have stated he does free work) and charged during this period. If MP paid how much the total bill was would be of great interest to me. If this was a race for governor and this was a non horse related issue wouldn't you want the candidate to answer it HONESTLY?

N.J. sports agency upholds decision to privatize Monmouth Park racetrack

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/201...ck_privat.html

Do you see me going after Gural who has been very PUBLIC of his INTENTIONS and how everything went down. The only problem I had with his outfit was an announcement on the loudspeaker saying "the van is leaving for Staten Island in five minutes and the Travers was being raced during that speech. That was the first year of Winners I'm pretty sure nothing like that happens anymore. That incident is pretty minute considering all the efforts he has made and INFORMED the public on how everything he is attempting to do is proceeding. He has never had a judge rule against him or his companies. He has stated the state has to pay back a certain amount of money if the potential casino license is awarded to someone else.

So would if be fair to ask Mr. Drazin the same type of questions as Mr. Gural? Does his law firm get reimbursed if MP loses the SW case? Is there any wording in ANY document that enhances his firms bottom line as an "out" clause? Seriously you don't think these are realistic questions to ask?

I'm sure when you have used an attorney in the past you would want to know approximately how much the final bill might be. Please inform me if I am wrong about this and you didn't care how much you paid.
Plain and simple John Brunetti is growing an empire at Hialeah he doesn't want MP nor do his sons. Also that article was from 2012 and after everyone saw how dismal the numbers were as an operator of the racetracks the horseman took over MP(Bailey rescinded his offer). Last but not least there are a lot of legal hours being put into this push for legalizing sports wagering. To date the Christie administration has spent over $3m. I would imagine Dennis has put a lot of time into this matter since he has a brilliant mind and many of the issues being debated he has helped to structure. I wouldn't get hung up on how everyone got to this point I would enjoy the ride and let this all play out as none of what is going on will significantly affect anything you or I pay as far as NJ taxes!

At least 3 million of taxpayer money for a dictatorship something just isn't right. That taxpayers like me should just enjoy the ride with no questions asked? Those tax dollars could help rebuild some houses along the bayshore where I live. If this was a poll and the question was "should the state spend three million dollars on MP or use that money to finish rebuilding houses and other property that were substantially damaged during hurricane Sandy"? My hunch is hurricane relief would get at least 90% of the vote and deservedly so.

I would imagine Dennis has put a lot of time into this matter since he has a brilliant mind and many of the issues being debated he has helped to structure.

What does this mean exactly? He can charge more billable hours? If they chose a respectable law firm whose expertise was gambling laws this would have looked much better. If they had multiple Las vegas clients there's at least a very good chance it would show just how competent they are. Now I'm wondering if William Hill has hired another NJ firm (that they probably don't need) that has connections to MP. There is also a possibility that Betfair might have new attorneys or firms that reside in the state of NJ on their payroll.

I would imagine Dennis has put a lot of time into this matter since he has a brilliant mind and many of the issues being debated he has helped to structure.

How did his brilliant mind work during his APPOINTMENT to the NJSEA? Since he was a member was he at least partly responsible for running it into the ground? Could you show me any articles where he criticized his fellow board members before the horsemen's bid and takeover was successful. Or was this POLITICS as usual?

Lets read this article a bit.

Monmouth puts its fate in Drazin's hands

http://www.drf.com/news/monmouth-put...-drazins-hands

The horsemen also gain control of the Woodbridge Off-Track Wagering (OTW) facility and plan to add two more within 24 months.

That was written May 10, 2012. Well over three years later one is scheduled to open. Is that a track record (no pun intended) to be proud of?

“I get involved with almost every issue that’s out there,” he said.

According to this statement he FAILED to convince the court that his briefs and arguments should mean overturning the present law regarding NJ. His degree of responsibility is probably at the highest plateau imaginable.

If you had a trainer that put on this type of performance please don't tell me you wouldn't at bare minimum think about replacing him. Knowing how well your horse can perform would you give the trainer, crew, and billing continue without asking some tough questions about how this is going?

Having said all of this I hope NJ and the other 49 states get a bill passed in congress that give them the ability to set up shop. Since rep Pallone is one of the first to go after fantasy wagering as it is maybe two bills could be consolidated. Letting the states decide whether they want to a bookmaker should be their right without federal interference. I'm sure the government would want to tax it some way but if that's what it takes to be passed NJ should be the first one out of the gate.

The monies being spent on the SW platform and those that were to be given to the state of NJ from FEMA are entirely two different items. Despite numerous attempts to get federal relief from Hurricane Sandy the Christie administration has faced many obstacles in receiving this aid. This has taken its toll on the Governor as well as the ongoing bridgegate scandel, his popularity isn't what it was the day he told everyone to get the "f off the beach" and to go somewhere safe as a hurricane was about to change the face of NJ and the Governors future political aspirations for a higher office!
Now onto the reason for SW in the state of NJ, other than the racetracks benefiting from this one town benefits the most, Atlantic City. The general consensus is that SW would bring people down to AC as well as bringing people out to the racetracks. People that would go to AC may stay over, shop, eat and spend money. People attending the racetrack to bet on sporting events would hopefully play the ponies, eat, drink and spend money. MP is unique it has a facitlity that can be built on, maybe a water park is added as well as a hotel and restaurants(one is due for completion in May)also a concert venue is being planned(on hold due to SW case).
NJSEA and Dennis Drazin. The NJSEA was a poorly run operation for many years. You can't be serious blaming one individual for its demise. Let's start with the failure to properly manage the old Giants Stadium, many bonds were taken out to build it, those bonds are still being paid off by NJ's taxpayers as the New Metlife Stadium isn't a major revenue stream for the NJSEA as the Old Giants Stadium was. The now defunct Izod center also has created a black eye for the authoirity. Recently court documents were released showing the authority never gave an "actual" reason why the Izod closed its doors and moved their remaining schedule of events to the Prudential Center in Newark. This is in the courts and will be an issue for those involved.
Going forward sports wagering is needed in NJ, it won't change the landscape but it will help out the two industries that need it the most. Once again you ask some very good questions, many of which can be answered by reading some of the numerous articles on NJ's many issues!

1. I don't trust everything I read on the net because many, many, people have an agenda and this is so convenient to use. Our debate wouldn't exist if it wasn't for PA (do I get props MIle?) having a board to voice my concerns.I have written my last letter to public figures on this subject as I can write their reply before it's sent to me. Also I believe you telling me that he has spent some of his own money (don't have a clue if its a dollar or more) before a bunch of people and reporters.

2. I don't blame one person for the demise of the NJSEA. I haven't looked it up is he the one one who jumped ship? So far there is one winner (financially) in this long standing soap opera his name should be familiar to everyone including the judge who ruled against him.

3.I'm not going to comment politically for more than a sentence or two. When you ignore and NEGLECT your own for higher aspirations most times there is a price to pay.

4. Please tell me who the general consensus is. They have to be the most incompetent group of people in the entire state. The rest except for THEM knew that Atlantic City was and was going to stay ONE BIG BUST.

5. I'm really impressed since the takeover that the management team has work hard in such an expeditious manner and finished the mini golf course. At this rate a swimming park should be completed by the year 2022. Maybe they're waiting for someone to start a construction company before they award the contract since it isn't competitive.

6. Could you kindly provide the links to at least some of these articles you mention? I prefer the ones who aren't linked politically to either side but "beggars can't be choosy".

7. My apologies to anyone who read all of this and finds it boring. Writing is something that is extremely hard to do and keep people interested. As the great Bugs Bunny used to say "that's all (for today) folks".

Big hearing coming up on Wednesday in Philadelphia. Very reasonable chance NJ prevails this time, though no lock.

Lets see......I put the over/under on this at 8-10 years. A while ago, just to be funny but I knew it would maybe come true too. This thread is going on 2 years old.......no sports betting yet. Sorry to rain on your parade!

People act like there are not powerful entities behind the scenes trying to make this never happen......because once it does a flood of states will follow suit........$$$.....Just like the sudden "pot change of heart". Things become "too legit" and certain people can't take advantage.

Good for you. I guess you didn't read that the third circuit reversed itself and is now allowing for a full hearing and final decision with "all hands on deck". It may be time to do a little reading on how the NFL is sweating this one out...

From what I have read, its about 50-50 for NJ sports betting on this full court rehearing. a coin flip. prolly 7-5 either way (12 justices in all rehearing case)

Its gonna be close.

Daniel Wallach has been following the case closely and has a long post about the odds faced by NJ. It boils down, in his view, to the following math:

Quote:
With New Jersey needing seven votes to win (and with three already leaning towards the leagues, with only two seemingly in the New Jersey camp), five out of the remaining seven judges would have to side with New Jersey in order for the state to prevail on rehearing. That’s not impossible, but daunting nevertheless.
http://www.legalsportsreport.com/830...ampaign=buffer

I'd take those odds, though 4 out of 7 is considerably better and just as likely as 5 of 7. There's wiggle room in Wallach's assessments. Hoping he's wrong about at least one of the judges.

Hearing begins 11am this morning in Philadelphia.

Consensus coming out of New Jersey sports betting hearing in Philly: Leagues will prevail, but the fight is not over.
Quote:

Takeaway: PASPA constitutionality back in play, but leagues will likely prevail again. Expect "partial repeal" ability to be circumscribed.

Great.

Nauseating how stupid and uninformed are some of the comments from the judges.

First #DFS mention: Judge Fisher says that unregulated NJ sports betting sounds an awful lot like FanDuel and DraftKings.
Except they're completely different, of course. In sports betting, you're not competing against other customers. Where is the parallel scenario in sports betting to the DFS insider cheating matter?

Thank goodness the legal experts are weighing in

In Jersey's favor that at least some of the seven voted for the rehearing.

They would not have voted for a rehearing if they didn't at least have some questions about the two conflicting opinions issued from the bench.
