Inside the Edge - Blackjack Documentary

it's finally out - I think - but I don't know where you can watch the whole thing

I'm guessing that many who show their face have left the game or had their image dramatically altered

according to IMDB the cast includes many legends of Advantage Play in Blackjack

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3575954/

it's brand new - there was a long delay in releasing it

I'm sure they had to deal with the issues of exposing their identities
not 100% sure how they handled it

again, I'm not sure where you can watch the whole thing right now

It has a release date 4 weeks from now - May 21.

Will be VOD and DVD. There seem to be places you can download, if you want to risk it.

I will definitely NOT be downloading from that site. Looks bogus. If it is not on some major site I may just buy the DVD. Thanks

the flick can now be rented on Amazon for $4.99 - I think one dollar less if you have Prime

I got it on the ITunes. Pretty well done. Does not make the idea of being a pro blackjack player seem very attractive at all no matter how much money you make. This is just one guys story. I wish him the best. Not that I have his ability but the stress involved in what he is doing is way out of my comfort zone. I would only recommend this movie for true lovers of gambling.

"KC", the documentary's featured blackjack pro, lost about $325,000 during a three month span of daily blackjack play. It made me wonder how many "independent" professional horseplayers would still be active after such an economic downturn.

Although its a bit dated, but from time to time I still get a kick out of reading Ken Uston's book about his blackjack days in Vegas.

Blackjack the Forum

Although most posters in this thread hadn't yet seen the film, possibly some relevant comments on it from serious BJ players. The poster 'Norm' who runs the site, has written the best BJ software extant, some of it used by the MIT team (I understand Johnny Chang is in the film?), and is one of the most knowledgeable people in the world on the game. The poster "LVBear" is a longtime, successful pro, a close friend of Stanford Wong, and a boundless source of valuable information to myself and many others over the years -- I believe he's pushing 80.

I get the sense that the film exaggerates the frequency and severity of backoffs and 86s. The era of really rough stuff (like Uston's broken jaw) ended when corporations replaced the mob in Vegas. All but a couple of the backoffs I've ever received over the decades have been civil. Horses4Courses should comment on this.

Also the idea that you need a disguise to play is a joke -- I don't know anyone who uses any. Limiting exposure is much more effective, not to mention less stressful and labor intensive. Biometric scanners can easily be fooled by a baseball cap and glasses -- unlike a reasonably sharp pit boss, who can seemingly remember any player who he backed off/barred after a profitable session many years later.
