SSDs with larger capacities reliably post better performance numbers than smaller capacity drives of the same make and model. If you don't know anything about how SSDs work, this seems like a mystery, but the reason behind the slowdown makes perfect sense.




With NVME drives most of the reviews I have seen give the speed award to the bigger drives.




Also most NVME drives are much fast than SSDs if that is a concern. Makes for faster data access

My tech guys tell me just the opposite!

My most recent upgrade was to a larger SSD and it is noticeably slower!

Maybe I need to have a chat with him!

I agree with Ralph, a celeron is not worth the investment. When you stream what is best is 1 Gig speed from your provider and the impressive modem that will not only handle the speed but will last a few years. I have several rooms that I removed all the cable wire and replaced that wire with hi-speed internet connections. All poor slow everything stopped when the cable was cut and replaced with Roku's, I have a few Atom computers on brackets behind the televisions with HDMI to have anything computer and Bluetooth anything I want. I am not into paying subscriptions just high speed internet content. Anything youtube is five times better on television than any computer and is why I really don't click on much content here.

Nothing is 100% . It all depends on your file structure, big files, little files, etc. Some drives work faster writing, some reading, lots of random small files versus big continuous files. I try to read some reviews that test all the different scenarios since the drive controllers have different capabilities. Then I just buy the cheapest decent ones.


Black Magic has a test program I believe that tests your drive read/write speed.


Either way, the NVME drives are the way to go for the best speed. I upgraded my Macbook Pro drive to a newer bigger NVME drive and got a good increase in speed.

Sure.
My new drive was slower on day 1.

Should have returned it. But now, with the number of code backups I make each day, the drive is going to be replaced again in a couple of months.

A quick guess would be that yesterday just the code backups were about 40,000 files and 12GB.

I've got like 6m files on my C-Drive.

Lots of little files....


My database is about 50 gigs of tables.



My new photo hobby has about 500 gigs of high res pics of birds, etc.

What they say is true. The bigger the hard drive the more stuff you get to fill it.
