They don't have to because global trade is ensured by the United States. I'm not one of these "pay their fair share" types when it comes to defense spending but if you're one of these we should lower our defense spending to what other countries spend types you don't understand international relations or balance of oower /realpolitik.

The key difference is you either believe a strong defense is the best offense OR everything will be alright with just talking it out.
This is the difference between a nationalist and a globalist.

Oh, I realize fully that we can't cut back on defense now.
Our current position has been decades, if not centuries, in the making.
It's a shame that it's come to this, though. Similar to our lack of gun control.

It is a shame to have to protect your wealth. Similar to how we have to lock our doors at night, have doorbells with cameras in them, etc.

Man has been protecting his wealth since he could swing a club,

I disagree completely but that's a different discussion. We're globalist. The British Empire was globalist. Spain was globalist. The Romans were globalist.
Historically nationalism destroys empires it doesn't create them.
