NY RACING

hate to say this , beginning to think of Bruce's song, My City in Ruins

Watching 5 horse fields in the dead of winter isn't exactly
enticing compared to racing in different states especially
those situated in warmer weather during the winter months.

Attendance levels are low. and attempting to gain revenue via
the internet and Television probably is useless when comparing
10-12 horse fields in Fla, KY etc...

Ironically, 20-30 + years ago winter racing was doing fine
as fans didn't have off-track betting sites and/ or the luxury of
watching live racing at home..

With that thought in mind, perhaps the northern tracks could create
a "cold" pick 6 between themselves ;ie AQU/Parx Lrl etc...

In fact, maybe structuring the bet such as the Sunshine Pick 6
with wagers stating at .20 cents?

NYRA didnt issue a calander this year because they arent sure of the saratoga dates as of yet . Chris Kay is the most inept ceo in the land , lets not forget his toys are us collapse when he ran that company . there doesnt look like any help for a failing venue and kay is certainly not the answer

Santa Anita's winter meet is even worse, as far as horse shortage. Yesterday they had a 3 horse race, 4 horse race, 5 horse race.

Scratches due to off-turf and main track-good.

Fields at SA have been better than average this meet so far as compared to the past couple seasons. Bottom level races are filling pretty easy. Still a shortage at the top end.

But that's the way of the industry. Points of least resistance and meeting at the lowest common denominator. Bigger the purses at the lower tiers of the condition book, the easier the decision is for connections to drop horses into easier spots and make a run for the cash.

The jockey situation at AQU is nothing short of whole scale desertion.

But who can blame them. Gulfstream Park in January is much more appealing than even the nicest NYC winters.

Parx seems to have good field sizes every time I tune in.
Not that far south of NY.

Give me a 10 horse field of nickel claimers over a 5 horse stakes any day.

I’m not playing NYRA. The weather curse of 2018 wore me down.

I still watch Talking Horses most days though. Gulfstream has been tremendous enjoyment.

I need that. 2-3 times a year I give serious thought to giving it up.
