The turf racing seems decent but the dirt races are pretty bad from a gambling standpoint. I've seen days where they only run 3 or 4 dirt races and still don't have full fields. I know the 2yo maiden races are limited to 8 starters, but other dirt races have had pretty small fields also. Lots of short priced winners. Thank goodness they have 2 turf courses.

Hit 2 long shots on the 21st of July that have kept me above water for the meet, but sinking fast!
TLG keeps on trying to beat the favorite, looking for value horses, not happening!

Seems like a lot of horse just are not firing at all.
They should got 5 days week and 4 weeks.
Make it special again.

The excitement of the Spa is just not there for me this year, the racing is just ordinary. I used to bet every day, now I pick my spots and if I don't bet for a few days it doesn't bother me. Hope things pick up the last couple weeks there.

In the past I've gone Monday-Friday. This year I'm going Labor Day weekend. Pretty exited about the possibility of seeing wise dan and the Woodward!

Need more patience and to only play stakes and Graded Stakes races.
Was really lucky today to stay ahead of the curve as I wagered on 5 races with only the G2 that was really the only playable race the entire day.
Patience, class, pace... and stay away from bad races. And there have been more than normal.

The racing has been sub par this year. I have cut my betting down to a few small plays a week. There seems to be no wow factor this year.

As a whole and in parts, Saratoga is great. If there were more dirt horses to fill races there would be more races for them - this coming from someone that has no clue when it comes to turf racing. From a gambling standpoint, I can find exotic plays everyday and the fact that the winners circle is avoiding me is a different story. Don't want to compare to our friends on the West Coast - did you see their cards on Thurs and Friday? Turf course had something to do with it ...
Getting back to the intent of the OP, I have no insight about second time over track, trainers that do well second half etc. In general I would say that speed and inside were friendly the first part of the meet. On a side point, how will Jacobson do the second half?

It seems people are finally figuring out that the cards have been watered down to the point where the meet is no longer special.
Tom is right about going back to four weeks but with Aqueduct probably going bye bye, the greater probability is that the meet will be extended even further.

Gawd, we will having a Belmont report card---every two months!
But look at the savings - they will only have to winterize half the track!

Rudy Rodriguez is having a sneakily good meet. Some great place prices (like race 4 today) and okay win prices. Waiting for the Jacobson barn to heat up. Lulling us asleep?

The multi horse scratches despite excellent conditions is zapping the joy out for me. Take todays 6th. It was my best betting race of the day with two legit speedsters so I was all over the Bruce Levine dropping with surface change. The second speedster scratched as did four others including my leaving this a 6 horse turf race at the spa in August.
I singled the lone speed in an flyer pick 6 and he won. How clever

Saratoga is as good as ever; it just takes patience, hard work, and a bank roll to make it happen.
