My guess is the legal costs of "beating the crap" out of someone using a bathroom the the local government has said they are entitled to would exceed $1000 a few times over. It doesn't make economic sense to me, but I'm not the one paying the lawyer. It's your money & your liberty on the line so have at it.

Now that's a suit I may chip in on. I'm guessing a fundme page would raise enough to throw the person a parade when the suit's over.
Hey, Tom, i can envision your defense. Hold up a pair of lady's undies, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit."

In the real world

That strategy might work, providing the person hadn't previously posted his intentions to commit a hate crime over the Internet and enlist the aid of an associate to purger himself. If the individual managed to find a sympathetic local jury that would acquit him, he would face a massive civil suit much like OJ did with the Goldmans. In the civil suit, the victim would seek medical costs & a few dollars for pain suffering. Off the top of my head, I'd guess we're talking a quarter of a million of so.
As this involves a hate crime, if the local GLBT community makes a fuss, the Feds may charge the person with violating the persons civil rights. One of the interesting things about being charged by the Feds is they can hold the trial anywhere in the USA. In a case like this, they might decide to hold the trial in San Francisco or Fire Island. My guess is the jury from either place would be inclined to find the person guilty. Now we're looking at a few years in a Federal prison & possibly a fine, not to mention the legal fees.
You'd think no one would be dump enough to post their criminal activities or intentions on the Internet, but criminals are not the best & brightest.
I just remembered what this conversation reminds me of.

You've just described basically every politician that's ever held any elective office, including most if not all Presidents of recent times.
I quite honestly don't understand why Trump gets your panties all in a wad.
And for the record, the lawsuit against Trump University is a civil suit. If it were a criminal suit, then you might have something. Since it's a civil suit, it's mostly all bark with little bite. It won't hurt Trump in the least (nothing seems to anyway...why should this?)

I understand that most politicians feather their on nest. It's part of the job, much like bartenders taking a few bucks from the house. A certain amount is normal. No Biggie. I'm from Chicago & don't expect a saint. Trump falls into another level. I don"t think Trump would be content to grab a few million, he would want billions .
In addition to this he doesn't seem to have a grasp on how government works. He also has no firm commitment to any issue. He's said wildly different things depending to which group he's talking to.
Your right about the Trump U info probably not hurting him. His supporters seem to view him much like Scientologists view L, R. Hubbard. He however does seem to be somewhat concerned about it as evidenced by his reference to the Judge as a Mexican, in a pejorative manner the other day.
In recent years the office of the Presidency has expanded as has the government. It might be beyond the skills of one person. It's defiantly beyond the skills of Trump or Clinton.
I'm voting a split ticket with Johnson/Weld on top and Republicans on balance of ballot. I expect the winner will be either Clinton or Trump & will watch with detached amusement as the next 4 years play out.
Always a pleasure to speak with you PA

Good luck with that.

Thanks, I doubt they will win unless it winds up in the House of Representatives & even then all of the planets will have to align perfectly. There is no way I could bring myself to vote for either Trump or Clinton.

Wow. You expect a politician to be dirty, and are ok with it? That says a lot about your own ethics.

By the time November rolls around only one will look high energy who says what average are thinking. Say what you will, Mr Trump decimated all contenders in his political party running for the Presidency by connecting with voters. Should Donald J. Trump become our 45th United States President there will be huge change, if he only gets half of the things started or done it would be more than any President has done in fifty years. Can anyone here imagine that we start paying off some of our national debt, socialist and commie heads exploding everywhere.

How? Trump has no plans that would do that.
