Looking back on Serenas career, it's not the first meltdown she's had. In 2009, Williams, "who had already received an initial warning for crushing her racket after losing the first set, was serving to stay in the match when she was called for a foot fault on a second serve. She berated the lineswoman, cursing and waving her racket, and was assessed a code violation that prompted a mandatory point penalty on match point, ending the contest. Had Williams been formally defaulted from the match, she would not have been able to play in the doubles final."
"I want to sincerely apologize FIRST to the lineswoman, Kim Clijsters, the USTA and mostly tennis fans everywhere for my inappropriate outburst," the statement said. "I'm a woman of great pride, faith and integrity, and I admit when I'm wrong. I need to make it clear to all young people that I handled myself inappropriately and it's not the way to act -- win or lose, good call or bad call in any sport, in any manner."
I see her more as a competitor who hates losing worse than any handicapper I know.

They all receive coaching during a match. Why on earth he decided to call her on it in a major championship finals is beyond me. If you can't handle being called a thief then you need to find another line of work. The world needs ditch diggers also.

Serena tried to bully the umpire. It did not work. That pissed her off even more. Coupled with the fact she was getting her ass kicked did not make for a happy camper. I've been watching and playing tennis since the mid 70's. Two other players came to mind when watching her meltdown, McEnroe and Nastase. I'm sure there are others I may have forgotten.

Certainly guys smash rackets, and I guarantee you he was fined. Women do too. I don't even think it is a big deal but for now it is a violation. The match was probably over or he'd have gotten worse. Not really the same as just constantly abusing the umpire while the match is still in progress.

It's not exactly the but it's still poor sportsmanship. I forget the guys name but he's only on SportsCenter when he acts like a jerk. Once again I have no problem h any of this stuff, it's nothing but entertainment and taken way too seriously in the first place I love UFC and boxing because they talk smack and then go settle it which makes it a lot of fun

So many wrongs in this. Coaching, sending signals. Actually calling it in a championship match when Serena is on the other side of the court. Serena trying to intimidate the umpire. The only one who did right was the champion, playing her ass off. Of course no one wants to talk about her. This is the world we live in.......
