RIP Charles Assimakopoulos

Very sad to hear of the passing of #NewEnglandRacingHallOfFame
trainer Charles Assimakopoulos. Charlie trained for +35 years,
mainly at Suffolk Downs & Rockingham Park,
but also won stakes at The Meadowlands & at NYRA tracks.
The past few decades he spent winter meets at Tampa & Laurel.
Charlie was also the original trainer of GANDER.
Hope Suffolk Downs does a memorial tribute this summer.

sad news. grew up watching yasou stable run some nice ones at rockingham and suffolk back in the day.

please correct me if i am wrong, but wasn't it John Assimakopoulis that had Yassou stabels. i would think that Bombs Away might know better than myself because i know they came from Fitchburg

John is Charlie's son, was Tikey's assistant for a long time,
gradually took over all training duties the past few years.

i thought it was the other way around, John being the father.

charlie was the father, john is the son.
watched the operation from the grandstand for many years
