All you said is true, but there is one thing you left out. Cops are paid to handle stressful situations. It is part of the job.

Can you post a link to the job description to which you have referred here?
I think he handled a stressful situation perfectly - he arrested her for being a jerk.

While he misconstrued my comments, I think Robert has a point, though my opinion is that Sandra had more at stake in this situation and should have behaved accordingly.
If you can get past the liberal bias of this site, this is a piece written by Seth Stoughton who is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina School of Law and also a former Police Officer with the Tallahassee Police Department.

Stressful situation?
A stressful situation is going after the theatre shooter in Louisiana.
This was akin to dealing with a surly customer, and the cop couldn't handle it. That's why he's soon to be out of a job and will have this hanging over his head for the rest of his life.
On the bright side, this should send a message to Barney Fifes around the country to just do their jobs without bringing in their issues and insecurities.

I do not believe being a jerk is against the law anywhere in the United States currently. If it was, all the politicians would be doing 20 to life.

The parking companies I worked for expect our attendants to keep their cool at all times with irate customers. If they did not, they were history. Try dealing with a drunken Husker fan after a home loss who had his car towed because parked where he should not have. I had one employee lose his job because he got into a shouting match in just that situation. I guarantee he was making less than a third of what the cop was making and had no where the training. If we expect a parking lot attendant to keep his cool under all circumstances, why should we expect less from a police officer?

My 2 cents.. Cop was out of line, not only gave her the bullshit ticket but rubbed her nose in it. He should have given her the ticket and walked away. After seeing the video I would have been just as pissed off as the driver.. Most cops act the right way.. Not here.. Shame

Well they are not cops, now are they?
There is a difference between a customer and a citizen.
The cop over-reacted to a stupid jerk. Had SHE kept her big mouth shut, she would have driven away.

Blatant racism. What possible motive could he have other than racial hate. The man should be in prison, not in the sheriff's office.
That's the only factual evidence they could come up with, and that and a couple of comments by locals is enough to brand the entire county racist? By the way, the cop that arrested the woman was a state trooper, not a county cop.

The county Sheriff is only one example. Please read the entire article.
Here is another.
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...-waller-county
We Crunched the Numbers on Race and Traffic Stops in the County Where Sandra Bland Died
...According to data collected by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, a disproportionate number of the drivers pulled over by police in Waller County in 2014 were black. Out of 12,300 traffic stops, more than 29 percent involved black drivers, while black people make up about 26 percent of the county's population. In comparison, whites, who make up 70 percent of the county's population, were involved in 44 percent of traffic stops.

I don't think 29% vs. 26% is a significant disparity.

Maybe but even you would have to admit that 70% to 44% is a significant disparity.

actually the real disparity is that 4% of the non-white/black population makes up 27% of the stops. Methinks the study is counting something incorrectly. I have a feeling that some are being counted as white in one column and Hispanic in another.

Actually, being pulled in over in Waller County has nothing to do with living in Waller County. Pretty busy road runs right through there.
