Big Sur was "humanely Euthanized' according to the equibase chart at Parx on Sept 1.
I dont ever remember seeing this as the actual comment...usually this comes in the "notes" or doesnt come at all.

Those of you who follow Suffolk Downs ',they lost a true warrior Tuesday.
"National Hero" ,11yo gelding broke down . Had to be a tough one to see .
As per DRF and folks , this made me weep .They didn't have enough time
to get this poor horse out of the ditch and off the track , so they
cancelled the last race . Could they have at least let one think it was
for big hearted horse , UGH. 11 yo g , Adena missed this one
RIP National Hero

Well, I hope this turns out to be premature, but it looks very bad. Shades of Sugar, a speedy 3yo filly by Big Brown just broke down in an allowance at Finger Lakes against males. She was up front contesting the pace then dropped back abruptly early in the stretch. In the head-on replay, I saw her slow to a crawl and finally break down in her front, going to the ground. Sickening.
I hope they can save her, but I'm anything but optimisic.

As expected, Shades of Sugar didn't make it.

One has to wonder what kind of issues she was known to have. She was originally in Doug O'Neill's barn earlier this year at Santa Anita, and made her debut in a $40K claimer. She was claimed out of that and sent to Finger Lakes. Considering she was a NY Bred, being sent east wouldn't be that strange.. but Finger Lakes? For a well bred and talented 3yo filly?

If we're going to have an "In Memory of" thread, let's include the mare named "Thread."
Thread, one of many thoroughbreds to take that name, was foaled in 1991. Bred and owned by Claiborne farms, the daughter of Topsider out of Knot (Majestic Light), excelled on grass, winning the Palisades Stakes and Audobon Oaks, and placing in three other grass stakes. She finished with 6 wins in 18 starts and earnings of $242,133.
Thread stood at Claiborne farms after her racing career. Her most successful offspring was Wend, who won the New York handicap and Audobon Oaks and is now a broodmare herself.
Thread died on May 18, 2011 as the result of a paddock accident. She was scheduled to be bred that day.

I'm gonna catch heat for this but I can care less
What is the purpose of this thread? All it does is give people another reason to stop betting horses....and give ammo to anti horse racing advocates
I really don't wanna come here and see these posts as there is never a good ending.......why not give a link to the breakdowns too and then
Well see who has the heart to watch it
These threads do no good for the game

Well , perhaps it should be moved elsewhere if the Admins find that's the case . It's a sensitive subject but some do want to pay respect .
We often have separate threads for those who we've lost , thought it might be better to do in one thread .
