Prairie Meadows
Think it would be wise for them to open and start off the meet with the same OP protocols. AP is not running, IN on hold, no decision by CD. They could have big fields w/no competition at night. If Fonner can handle $2.8 million with 4 furlong and 2-turn 6 furlong races-what could PRM handle?

I sent them an email. Just use OP protocols. There are a lot of horses that need a place to go

Fonner Park realized a 272.2% increase in betting handle in March 2020 versus March of 2019. Will Rogers Downs saw an increase of 657.5% over the same period.
2017 handle numbers for PRM per HANA $19,757 mutual pool per race, $25,760 exotic pool per race. I am not sure if this includes their quarter horse meet that gets minimal play. Using WRD percentage increase that's puts PRM at $295K per race. I think this is a low estimate
Seems like a win/win for Prairie Meadows. I'm not saying to open the casino, just the racetrack

That has got to be the worst idea I've heard in awhile. Handle means literally nothing to Prairie Meadows.
Horse racing enjoys a free ride in Iowa from the casino. Anything that risks bad publicity for the casino will not happen.
Horse racing during the pandemic would be very bad publicity for the casino.
Not going to happen.

The avg pool numbers we reported are thoroughbred only.

With all of the handle for Fonner and WRD being via simulcasting their daily cut winds up around only 3% of the total, or whatever the simulcasting fee is they get from the ADWs. If Fonner does $2 million in handle they wind up with about $60K.

Will forced, mass unemployment be good for the casino? How about state and local tax revenues?

you are right; trying to find a way to keep people employed. I think people are underestimating the kind of tax revenue loss state and local governments are going to be hit with. They can't print money like the federal government can. We need a cure fast.

Prairie Meadows officially furloughed 1130 employees today. Kept 73 on staff, mostly security. The employees had been on paid leave since March 16.
From the newest (April 27)state of Iowa orders:
E. Race tracks: A speedway or race track, other than a track conducting horse or dog races, may reopen its operations provided that it does not permit any spectators to attend its events in person.
This order is expected to last until at least May 15.
Interesting as it specifically bans spectatorless horse and dog racing while allowing car races without spectators.

I don't really agree with this, for THIS particular track.
A lot of horses and workers leave OP and then go there. It's not huge, they can practice same stuff OP has done, specatorless, etc. and workers still have a job taking care of horses and barns can still have an chance to make $.
OP did it w/out the casino being open (which I think WOULD be a bad idea, for instance).
PM isn't a big venue where hundreds of thousands of people will gather. I think they can pull it off. JMHO
Plus, I play them after OP, since I already have a handle on the jockey and trainer colonies. I don't move my wagering to NY after OP at all. I have always liked and play the midwestern tracks, that's kinda my sweet spot.
I'm surprised they are banning horse racing but not car racing for sure

Are you kidding me? Prairie Meadows is right in my handicapping wheelhouse. The sooner they open up, the better. You can have Will Rogers. I would have added Fonner, except I've actually turned a profit there this season. Love those tier 3 tracks!

I've played multiple WRD contests won a few but lost more. I don't have a good feel for this track
