Monmouth looking better every day.
Someday in a generation or two, the BC Classic and Derby will be run at the taxing one mile distance.

The stake at Aqueduct went in 157 and change today.
Isn't that Preakness time?

Future for Charleston looking good!

The Classic distance Super Derby went away. I loved seeing Wise Times, Alysheba and Sunday Silence at 1 1/4.

I can imagine these words from a host covering the BC Classic 2030...."Breeders Cup classic run at the classic distance of one mile..."

Post position data for races that start like this might be interesting.

Looks pretty much like Ellis Park so maybe that would be a good starting point.

You have that wrong. The classic distance will be 5 furlongs on the turf.

They tried this in the early 90's and inside posts dominated. I'm pretty sure that's why it was discontinued.

Bris has the charts for 1992 (I would think EB does too) the last year they ran the distance. There were 25 races run. Here is the field size, PP of the top 3 finishers, and 1/4 mile position of the winner, as well as track conditions.

I can't swear to it, but I think those races weren't run out of this chute. They started on the turn somewhere like this though. I recall what you are saying about the attempt and end to the experiment. My memory is shot.

I think you are right about this. The chute was long gone

The chute was originally dismantled after the 1972 season to accommodate additional parking. It was brought back briefly in 1992 when 25 races started in the chute.

A one turn mile is currently a classic distance at Aqueduct since it takes about 2:00 to complete.
