Astounding ability. And I don't think longer distances nor tractability will slow his roll. Soundness is another matter. Another matter entirely. It's usually physical issues that offset such a talent's awe-inspiring potential. Soundness-the critical part of a racehorse's make up that, if trainers get their way, stays shrouded in secrecy back at the barn. I don't blame or judge them. It's just not in their interest to divulge much at all on that topic.

Nobody divulges much about horse's issues....pretty much ever ( at least while they're racing ).

Trainers aren't pressed for reports on lesser horses. And most bettors would assume they were lying to begin with.

Everyone in athletics lies about injuries and physical condition. This is why the NFL actually fines teams that don't disclose injuries. It's the only way to get people to tell the truth.

In a perfect world, all the medical records of all racehorses would be available in real time for bettors. But no regulator does that.

Thoroughbred trainers don't incur fines for misinformation-or for lies of omission. In comparison, the NFL is a model of transparency.

And racing's nearly impenetrable shroud of secrecy has led to some ridiculous misconceptions about "super" horses.

I think including 1 1/16 miles in the possibilities is encouraging. Maybe there will be a race before the Met.

As a bettor, I'd be more eager to bet against if a sprint happened to draw a hot and quick-breaking pace, than if he runs 8.5f with a normal route pace.

He figures to just be as loose in a normal route. No distance concerns there.

See no issue with the 1m, 8.5 with him, and a lot of 9f races he could win with tactics alone regardless of whether he actually is suited to go that far.

The pressure of the success, sort of points him towards specializing in a sprint, so it's very cool to see the MET as a goal.

San Carlos used to be a G2 in March 7f... IDK... then Santa Anita Derby Card day is in April. I don't know why they couldn't find or write a 1m 1/16th or 1m soft G2 for him.

Who knows? A healthy, thriving Flightline + a loaded field would make for a special event.

Couple big purse spots at Oaklawn. Razorback is probably too soon, but the Essex would fit.

The tractability to sit just off the pace-at least through the early stages- in a one-turn race is one thing, doing that at a legitimate route distance, something else. And tempo will become a potential stumbling block as the distances increase.

Imagine the horse pitted against a Go Knicks, say, at nine-furlongs. Somebody will have to take back, at least a bit. And it won't be the Cox runner.

I will focus on the small picture when Flightline performs. There will be time enough later to anoint him the chosen one. I'm as excited as anyone about the horse. But far from ready to award him anything he doesn't earn. Harboring doubts is fun for me.

I have dreams of Flightline vs. Life is Good because that one is very possible.

I loved Gun Runner. IMO, he was never 100% on wet tracks, but he was still improving at the end. I'm glad he's off to a great start at stud, but I would have loved to have seen 1 more year of racing from him.

Is Life Is Good supposed to run beyond the Prepagus & Saudi Cups?
