Post your Saratoga angles here!
Norm Casse told me that his son Mark, perennial leading trainer at Woodbine, has a string of horses stabled at Saratoga this year and should be making an impact. Horses are in the care of Mark's son, Norman, and I hope to be visiting barn 25 in about 3 weeks.

Best part of Saratoga Day 1 - 104 in body of races and 13 on the AE.
Looks like the cards of a few years ago, let's hope they can keep this up for the entire meeting.

Saratoga is my favorite meet of the year! For me, it's all about trainers - pick up Jim Mazur's "Saratoga Handicapper." Lots of good info there. Stay away from trainers like Pletcher and Linda Rice - they will be overbet. Trainers will get hot early in the meet - pay attention! In 2008, trainer David Duggan was on a roll winning with longshot after longshot. Good luck, have fun! I will be up at the Spa July 28-31. Can't wait!

Saratoga Stats
DRF used to offer this in years past but can't find it on their site this year. Maybe you have to purchase a pp plan to get it (can't remember).
Saratoga Stats cover everything from jocks to post positions to trainers. Trainer stats are great:
> last years stats and stats for the last five years
> broken down btw dirt, turf, 2yr olds, 2yr old first time starters, etc...
Anyone have any info on the availability of these stats for the 2011 meet?
(which would cover the 2010 meet)
Thx

Some years shippers from CD win at prices in turf routes. They are always worth an extra look.

That's not it.
This is a DRF thing I'm talking about with stats for ALL trainers and jocks; not just the top ten or so, and it goes back 5yrs.

Best angle at the Spa? Patience. Don't get wrapped up in all the great races. If you don't feel extremely confident in a race, pass it. The place will break you if you don't keep your control, and even then it still might.
Oh, and don't discount FL shippers out of hand, especially if the jock comes with the horse AND they are running there that day.

I would also suggest the live web chats Andy Serling (the little guy) has at NYRA.com. There is one tonight at 8PM ET.

When I was a teenager I worked as a hot walker for trainer David Sazer one summer (I doubt many remember him). Sazer trained a few horses for Norm Casse (Status, Papa Pia and maybe one or two others). Norm's son Mark would work in the stable from time to time, usually on his dad's horses. I used to talk to him all the time because we were similar ages and he shared an interest in handicapping. It was right around the time that "Picking Winners" came out. I spent some time trying to convince him of the usefulness of speed handicapping. I think I even lent him my book for awhile. There's no chance he would remember me because I left the job after that summer and went to college. But he seemed like a good guy and I'm happy he's had some success.

6) Beware of the track bias. Saratoga can go either way. Last year it was mostly closers on a dry dirt track but some years it can be speed favoring.

This track played pretty fair last year for most types.
The second call leader did win about 38% of the time, and the winner was in the top 3 at the second call 75% of the time.
