I know of one other announcer who usually calls races at the Mid-Atlantic tracks that gives a chuckle from time to time during the race. Couldn't get his name. Will add to the list if you know who who he is.
As a side note, John Imbriale has been the back up announcer for the NYRA circuit for 25+ years. In fact, he, along with Harvey Pack started "Thoroughbred Action" and "Inside Racing". Didn't matter if it was the day after the Travers or the middle of February, he was always there to call them out.

While ( thankfully ) I am in no way involved in this process, I can pretty much guarantee this James Dooley character, whomever he is, will not be getting the job.

Funny you mentioned that, because for a few seasons, he did call the races at Aqueduct when Tom Durkin would be at Gulfstream in the winter

I think John Dooley has a chance but James Dooley? No chance.

Is this like the old racetrack superstition that if a horse's name is spelled wrong on the overnight, the horse is guaranteed to win?

This is really a poll of who you want to replace Durkin. We don't even know who is going to throw their hat into the ring.
I am guessing Dooley is a no-brainer to apply, since he has already called there. John Imbriale, I feel, likes his roll, but personally, I like his calls. Becker has a good NASCAR gig already. I doubt Vic Stauffer will leave California where he is a summertime steward and umps baseball and referees basketball, too.

Wasn't James Dooley the name of the character in the book "The Informer"?

In the Tom Durkin thread, Vic S stated he applied for the job..So that's one.
Collmus just signed on with CD..so he's out.
John Dooley has at least two gigs. Harrah's LA downs and Arlington.
Travis Stone( who is I believe from Upstate NY Just took the Monmouth gig.
John Lies, a very good caller IMO who does Lone Star, could be a viable candidate..
At the end of the day, it comes down to which guys are under contract to their employers. And those under contract whose employers are willing to let them negotiate with other tracks/employers.
If I had my druthers, my hope is that Vic gets the job....

If there's a strong tailwind, a toupee may land in there too.

How about going to the old Keeneland with nobody, except for with 1000 people at the races these days, you would hear crickets

I voted other, John G. Dooley! The poll likely has the first name wrong. So add one to him if that's what you meant.
