Sorry, just saw this today.
I add and subtract every single year.
My rules are:
1. If they ran a class in the last 2 years, then it needs a class level.
I never do starter races. There just is no connection from one year to the next because it is completely based upon which horses are on the grounds and the races they card.
2. If they ran a distance in the last 2 years, then the distance should have a par.
I can make an
extrapolated par with as little as one race, providing they've run the distance in the past.
Occasionally, (like at AQU's mile) they only run the races for statebred horses. That is VERY difficult to make a par for.
