40 years, because holiest of holies Ronnie Reagan started all this politics of grievance with his utterance “government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem'' in his 1981 inaugural speech.
When we got away from the realization that we the people ARE the government,
the trouble started (and it was not ''good trouble").

All that peace and prosperity. Energy independence.. record employment.. record minority home ownership and business start ups. I mean what was Trump thinking.
Your true fear is Trump opened people's eyes... thats your perceived damage.

Are you still in the horsepistol, Tom? You must be making good progress, 'cause you're feistier than ever. I used to smuggle cigs into the horsepistol for my kid brother when he was laid up for a while, but no smoking allowed!

TIME magazine explains that the "Person of the Year" title is NOT solely given to people with positive effects on the world.
"TIME’s choices for Person of the Year are often controversial. Editors are asked to choose the person or thing that had the greatest impact on the news, for good or ill — guidelines that leave them no choice but to select a newsworthy — not necessarily praiseworthy — cover subject."
I'd say that TIME's current choice falls under the "not necessarily praiseworthy" guideline.
Check out some of their previous choices:
