If No More Time can't win running on the lead against this field in 114 flat he has no business on the Derby trail. Remember it was Castellano who thought he gave Mage a great ride in the Preakness sitting three lengths off a pedestrian pace against National Treasure. He simply isn't any good judging the pace of a race.

He probably still swears that he didn't move prematurely with Bernardini in the Classic, right?

I thought it was an amazing ride as I had Invasor.

Still can't believe he paid $15.40.

Taking credit for getting lucky.

And then critiquing rides.

I see a book in the works.

That was a strange race. The race looked like it had plenty of speed in it. The horses with some speed were positioned up front early. It looked like a couple were urged enough out of the gate to think it was going to be at least an honest pace (before they backed it down). Yet the fractions say they were absolutely crawling early.

Your post triggered a great memory and that was of one of my favorite horses of all time Alysheba. Almost every race down the backstretch McCarron started moving him no matter how fast the race was going unlike today where how they go into the first turn is almost how they are at the top of the stretch.

I also miss those days when the same horses ran against each other for a couple of years. Alysheba ran numerous times against Ferdinand, Bet twice, Slew City Slew, Waquoit, Forty Niner, Cryptoclearance, Gulch. It is a shame we will never see another horse like Alysheba in our lifetime.

I remember thinking it was funny so many referred to Alysheba with feminine pronouns, as if the name itself came with distaff properties.
