Race 3
#4 Nobilis 3-1 Espinoza
Was twice Group 1 placed in France. Favored in 1st US start but ran a bit short behind fast early fractions. Exits a tough Grade 3 where the winner came back to lose by only 4 in the Grade 1 Gamely in next start. 4th place finisher, Esentepe, came back to win. 5th place finisher from that race came back to run 2nd in a 73k stakes race.

#1 Double Zap 6-1 Vergara
Word was out that he was a runner before his first (and only) start last year. He was 4-1 in MSW company at PRM but never got on track. That was a solid field as many have come back to run well, a few in stakes company. He comes back this year with a good work pattern. Son of Ghostzapper deserves another shot here.

Race 11 - BELMONT STAKES
#12 Palace Malice 15-1 Smith
I like Revolutionary quite a bit but think Palace Malice is where the spice will come for the exotics. Forget the Derby. He had the perfect storm of bad. Blinkers on, uncontrollable dashing to the lead in 45 and change and, while he backed up, he was only beaten 13. Runners like Goldencents, Verrazano, etc were beaten by two zip codes. Was stopped completely in the Louisiana Derby and that race can be tossed from his PP's. First route effort was in the Risen Star and he narrowly missed winning it. Would rather be sitting off the pace slightly so look for him to get a beautiful trip. Distance shouldn't be a problem.

Race 6
#2 Talk About 8-5 Velazquez
Bred to be very good and has been unlucky not to have more than 1 win already. Was hampered and in a lot of traffic trouble in debut last June but was so much better that she just overcame it and won by 5. Was in major traffic in the Minnesota Oaks two back and allowed 3 time stakes winner, Polar Plunge, her stablemate, to get the jump on her. She was running right with that one all the way to the wire. Notice how many lengths back to 3rd in most of her races. Finally gets a route of ground again and should destroy this field. Probably at 3-5 odds, however.

Thanks. Not too often I have serious conviction on a horse in one of the big races. This year, I really liked Normandy Invasion in the Derby, Itsmyluckyday in the Preakness and Palace Malice in the Belmont. At least one got there.
