Will Atlantic City Ever Be Brought Back Full Time?
It is a 1 1/8-mile track - and these days that gives a track a leg up on hosting the Breeders' Cup.
Just saying.

Isn't it a mall now?
I thought they tore it down.
That's all we need is another track running on the east coast.
3 horse fields? 3 days a week?

I don't believe so, not yet at least. Garden State Park became a commercial shopping area I believe.

It doesn't have the 5 day April meet anymore. They don't participate in NJbets. They also may not even exist as a standalone simulcast center anymore, I haven't been there in a few years because of the above.

The last google maps photo has the building still standing.Vegetation is showing in the dirt track. The turf course is in bad shape,
The hedges are no longer being trimmed.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/At...!4d-74.6384209
Looking at stories discussing the now defunct track, there seems to be little interest in the property for any type of development.
I find it amazing that here we have a city which had the chance to bask in the riches of being a gaming mecca figured out a way to throw it all away. 4 of the dozen or so gaming houses have closed. The city has a bad reputation regarding crime.
Its so bad that land values have plummeted to the point where few seem interested in investing in the region.
AC Racecourse died three decades ago when people stopped going and the owners stopped maintaining the place.

I used to go when they had a "real meet" and raced on monday nights
and in the grand stand I was usually one of a handful in the upper deck ,
this was 88-89.
Joe Bravo was a bug rider back then and it was a ghost town .
Heck I remember that auto toss jock Shawn Chavis
and the two guys who were stoned Gee Cantagallo and James Terry.
Carl Fiorentino sucked at philly but won in AC.

That's what I was thinking of.
Tony Black mentioned it once or twice.
Thanks!

Just the other day, I found an apartment that I lived in 25 years ago with no idea what the street name even was anymore. Just looking for things that looked familiar in the street view and looking around for about an hour until I found it. And this is in a major city. Pretty amazing things we have now.

I live about 10 minutes from there. Yes, it's a shopping mall, restaurants, condos, senior living, etc. now. Actually quite nice, though of course we've got 67 other commercial shopping areas already in the area.

thats too bad to hear, the 89 season at AC
he was winning at the highest clip of all the riders
in the high 20's which was well above his philly pk avg.
Was riding first call to a trainer I cant recall.
