We can't have it both ways. We can't complain that the sport is losing interest because our better horses retire early...and then complain when a pretty good horse is still running as a 6 year old.

Doubtful

This horse could still be classified as an equine favorite?

I have my doubts that they are racing IWR for the good of the racing public.

Just hope he gets around safely.......

You're right, they aren't racing him for the good of the racing public. They are racing him because he is a racehorse.

He was pretty good and showed promise at one time. If you want to knock this effort, you should also be knockin the connections of Redding Colliery, who has also beaten IWR in the past.

I don't know enough about valuing horses for stud, but I would have guessed that a Grade 1 winner with some obvious physical issues would be worth more retired than as a racehorse even if he doesn't have a great pedigree. How much can he earn if he races 2-3 times a year? He's got to have some value as a sire.

Just what the sport needs...another unsound horse at stud.

I agree with that philosophy. I think a horse's record of soundness, bleeding, and drug use (and then the soundness of the offspring) should play a role in the evaluation of prospective sires, but you can't totally eliminate horses on soundness. We would have lost Danzig that way.

Pretty big stretch to relate Danzig to I Want Revenge, don't you think?

It wasn't a comparison. I agree that soundness matters. IMO it's just not a disqualifier. Opinions on IWR were pretty high after his first two races in NY on dirt at 3. It's everything he's done since getting injured that has tempered the enthusiasm.

As you know, I already know all of the obvious stuff you are talking about. I never said soundness was a disqualifier. But there is a gigantic difference between a Danzig type horse and I Want Revenge.
