Jockeys' Guild, Churchill Downs Inc. agree on benefits deal
http://www.paulickreport.com/news/pe...benefits-deal/
I’m surprised CDI folded like a lawn chair on this although I guess it was as good as done back when they showed up at a CHRB meeting to kiss Brackpool’s posterior. Must be all about the signals, I guess.

A freebie is always very good news for the recipient.

Exercise riders are risking their lives in that melee in the morning, and the ones not licensed as jocks aren't ever going to be getting that 10% of a G1 winning purse, either. Should the tracks be forced to cover their insurance, too?

Why stop at the exercise riders?
What about trainers/grooms/hotwalkers/pony people?

I thought they get 10% of the trainers pay out?
Either way, a tough way to make a living

Exactly, let's include everybody. ... Well, maybe not the vets, they can self-medicate.

I agree with the majority here. I don't know why the tracks are expected to cover any of the insurance (or other benefits) of people who are not their employees.

A couple of questions about this recent donation agreement:
Why weren’t the terms disclosed and how come no comment from Mr. Brackpool, who had no business in this in the first place but now seems conspicuous by his silence?

Yes, they should and we have been fighting for that for many years.
Grooms, hotwalkers etc, do not have the same difficulty of obtaining and retaining insurance that the high-risk workers do. I am not sure if new law has been implemented to prevent insurance companies from "dropping you just because you used it" is in effect yet. This was a major issue when I was still riding.

And if you get that, what about the exercise riders at non-track owned training centers, is their insurancee to be paid for by the tracks, as well?

They would not have to be licensed to work on a farm. The tracks should only have to contribute for those that are licensed and ride on their grounds.
Most riders cannot afford the high insurance rates riding requires. If you were to close down all but the elite tracks then perhaps they could.
