Baffert done with Poly track
This experiment I hope is over....... Del Mar needs to go back to the real deal which is dirt.....
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert 'probably' done with Del Mar
By Ed Zieralski
Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:03 a.m.
DEL MAR, Calif — Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said today his days of racing at Del Mar may be over if the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club doesn't follow Santa Anita and return to a natural dirt surface.
""The dirt was needed bad there, and Santa Anita just may get California jump-started back again," Baffert said.
Del Mar officials have been adamant about not removing the Polytrack and returning to dirt. Baffert doesn't see them changing their minds.

Del Mar
The Del Mar dirt track had something horribly wrong with it the last few years they raced on it, but the track they have now is definitely inconsistent and one of the worse synthetic tracks.

He spent serious time with his 2yo's at Saratoga for a couple of years but then went back to SO Cal. I really thought at the time that he was going to make the shift to the NY/Fla circuit.

Good for Baffert. He took a lot of heat for speaking out in 2007. Guess what? He was right then and he's right now.
Let's hope they listen.

Del Mars best trainer is saying 'no mas'. This is alarming for Del Mar, hopefully other horsemen boycott the entry box at DMR until they go back to dirt.

Del Mar is dug in to their position for some reason. If the past is any indication they will come out with an article tomorrow or the next day to answer Baffert. At least that's been the pattern.
Paulick is leading with the story on the Paulick Report in Big Headlines.

I guess they won't be asking Bob to do another promotion next year.

I agree with what he has said but you know some of those guys like the surface. Horseman seem to always be 50/50 of a surface depending on the day, we always ahve to have something to complain about lol.

This is a PR nightmare. It's true, the synth @ DMR is more unsettled than any. You can't run quality animals on a surf that changes day2day/hourByhour.
They need to contact a PR firm, assemble a PowerPoint presentation showing that breakdowns still occur with regularity, they had hoped this synth would drastically help but it hasn't and they cannot continue on this course with the vast amount of vagaries it presents.
In other words, We tried, it ain't makin' that much of difference with breakdowns, we're going back to earth. Nice, tidy & to the point.

They can recycle this classic TV commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLrTPrp-fW8

The strange thing about this is that I've felt that the Dem Mar surface is the worst of the three.
The Pro Ride at SA was at least reasonably favorable for turf horses (including Euros). So you could make a case for its versatility and ability attract more horses.
The Cushion track at Hollywood seemed the most like dirt.
I'm still trying to find a redeeming quality about the Polytrack.

It’s tough for 2-year-olds, and I have a lot of young horses.
