Increased Beyers from 1 1/16 to 1 1/8 in Preakness

I read that it's always a good sign to see a horse that increases its Beyers going from 1 1/16 to 1 1/8 before the Kentucky Derby .... What about the Preakness ...can u follow that same angle here in the Preakness ?

Just learning the game a bit guys ...I realize many here know this answer ...but what is the truth , if any , on this angle ?

Looking at Quip ... his beyer goes down when extended from 1 1/16 ( 94 Beyer ) to 1 1/8 ( 92 ) ....with no excuses ...

Do you downgrade this horse when u see this ?

Much appreciate the help ....

All other things being equal, declining speed figures as distances increase are not a good thing for horses trying to go even longer. But all other things are rarely equal.

Maybe if it was an older horse. A 3YO can change so much from race to race.

My bigger question would be are any of those figures enough to keep in a conversation with the top 2.

Yes, any horse can "jump up" during 3 year old campaign. That's why Creator paid so well in the AR Derby and Commanding Curve paid so well in the KY Derby.

Creator paid 11-1 in the Arkansas Derby. He paid even better in the Belmont Stakes at 16-1.

Quip - 2 points is probably not significant. Why quibble?
Do we downgrade him for being forward in slow paces the last two?
Does his 'uncoupled' status affect his strategy as a whole (is he going to go for a piece and carry good form in case of a Belmont or other Stakes, or go all-out for a win even if it means tackling Justify)? or his tactics from the rail(will he break for the lead knowing that Justify may inherit an easy pace)?

Lone Sailor - BIG move up on Beyers.
How much do we upgrade that much-the-best 2nd in the allowance vs the slow pace? How much do we downgrade that he refused to win with a Dream trip in the LaD while tackling a pace-tenderized Noble Indy?

Tenfold - moved up on Beyers.
I give him a bunch of credit for for showing he belongs while testing deep waters. Only minor concern is the slight falter at the end of a race that was carrying horses home from a soft pace.

Still messing around with this, the top 4 horses all improved their rating compared to their last race.

... 1950
... 1897
... 1856
... 1848
... 1841
... 1836
... 1824
... 1806
