In all seriousness, who is fired next - Mnuchin (empty suit - I don't care about his "storied" Wall St career) or Powell?

The Dow, although heavily quoted ,is not that good an indicator of the overall market. It only has 30 stocks, there are no representation from utility and transportation stocks (covered by 2 separate indexes) and it's based only on price, not it's market capitalization. Thus high priced stocks have a outsized influence on the average, in the same way putting the salary of a billionaire would distort the average earnings of 29 middle and upper middle class workers. The S & P 500 is broader based, contains several companies from each economic sector as opposed to 1 or 2 for the Dow and takes market size into account when calculating the average. The S & P is down 9.6% in 2018, the Dow 11% (10.99 to be exact).

Very few contracts are actually executed. Almost all are terminated prior to expiration date.

If you were buying Calls today well I hope you are a trust baby with unlimited wealth.

Allan
buying calls limits loss to purchase price, would be bad if selling puts.

I'm not so sure about this. Reference the link in the first post of this thread:

Another problem that is less spoken about is the Wilshire 5000, which currently only holds 3486 stocks. We're in the GAAF economy whereby most of the wealth is highly concentrated.

Google
Apple
Amazon
Facebook

At one time the Wilshire 5000 had over 6300 components, now it can't barely find 3500 to index.

If you add Microsoft and Netflix to the above then those 7 companies hold more wealth than the entire hong kong stock exchange, and more than the 100 largest UK companies combined.

FDan (retweet/post) -- "They will crash the economy to make money off it." Please don't retweet idiotic comments.

The Stable Genius wants a roaring economy and stock market. He isn't "intentionally" crashing anything, nor is his Treasury Sec. Don't confuse incompetence for malevolence.

Not good for one's 401K .

Trump buys into the stock market raise as he states its because of him, just like he said he'll take the blame for the shutdown due to the wall.

As soon as the s*** hits the fan, he turns and runs blaming others, just like he ran from serving in Vietnam.

Guys a bully, a coward, a narcissist, not to mention much, much worse.

As Greenspan said "run for cover!"

He got me my middle class tax cut, that is more than Obama did for me in eight years.
