Given the response thus far to COVID-19....I'm gonna speculate that if this were EBOLA, people would just be outright killing themselves in order to prevent infection.
That's about what this response is on par with...just sayin'

Paid sick leave for workers. It took national emergency to get it done.

Just wondering....What are all these National Guard trucks doing on the freeways in the Southeast? Never seen convoys this long....Looks like a total shutdown is coming, Martial Law.

I understand this completely and wish only good things for you and yours.
I stayed out of Thoughts and prayers please... thread because of my views in The coronavirus thread and not really having interaction with you. Although I have followed the thread and I am very pleased things have gone your family's way in desired outcome.

Unfortunately, there are a whole bunch of people out there that don't have common sense.

RR,
There are 3,244 cases in the USA with a population of 331 million.
You do the math.

And it’s going to get a lot worse and overwhelm healthcare unless serious steps are taken to mitigate the spread.
That’s also the math.

The problem is that the cases are estimated to be growing at 15%-20% or so daily and the incubation period is 3-14 days. That means there are many thousands more infected people out there that don't have symptoms yet going about their lives infecting others without knowing it.
I've seen estimates (from reasonable people) that there are probably between 50k and 100k people infected right now nationally and that's growing at 15%-20% daily.
The bigger problem is that as that bubble of non symptomatic people starts getting sick in a week or two there will much greater demands on hospitals for beds, ICU care, and medical equipment to keep the very sick alive.
That's why such extreme measures are being taken. The idea is to get that 15%-20% growth rate way down so some people are recovering while others and getting sick and the healthcare system can handle the case load.
They are trying to "flatten" the growth curve so we can handle the load and don't turn into another Italy.

He asked a question and I answered why most people won't know someone who has the virus. It's a stupid question.
But thanks for lecturing me again even though my response certainly didn't deserve it...thanks to classhandicapper too for the additional lecture on top of yours.
As if I didn't know more cases were coming.
Gee guys, thanks for the REVELATION!

Sorry Pace.
I haven't been reading or following the thread closely to know what everyone has been saying. I was just trying to add some useful information.

The way this is going, those without guns are going to really be ****ed.
And those with guns are gonna be ****ed too, but at least they'll go down fighting.
What happens when Police and Firemen stop showing up for work?
Don't think it's gonna happen? I didn't think THIS would happen, and yet, here we are.
