Race 4
Happy Alumni (3-1) First time starter for the Lui barn wasnt thought of much going off at 63-1, and from the start of the race it looked like he was going to run to those odds breaking at least two lengths slow to the field. He quickly rushed himself back to the field and doing it while racing with his head held real high, this continued well into the stretch. When asked by Chadwick for run he was pinned in behind a wall of runners and at the 250 mark Matthew had to stop his run all together when Fabulous Eight came over into his path, even after that he fought his way thru to open ground and was full of run at the wire and galloped out past the entire field afterwards.
Race 5
Solar Wai Wai (4-5) First time starter for Lor with leading rider Zac Purton on for the trip and breaking from the 8 post with the short run to the turn in a 6 furlong Class 4 race at Sha Tin. Lets Come Back who broke on his outside ducked in at the start and bumped our runner sideways, he soon recovered and with a little coaxing by Zac made his way to the front of the line, unfortunately he had company pestering him and was never allowed to relax in the turn. Started to tippy toe as Brett Davis likes to call it at the 200 metre mark and couldnt hold off the perfect trip winner Speedy Dragon but did beat the third place runner Super Star by a length and a half. Zac let him gallop out past the wire very comfortably which usually isnt the case with him on a losing steed.
Race 6
Splendour And Gold (5-1) First time starter for trainer Yip drew the 2 post going 6 furlongs at Sha Tin. Broke just a step slow which is very understandable with his lack of experience, took him a while to gather himself up and find a comfortable running rythum, then was in tight quarters entering the stretch stuck between two runners. Fought thru that without much exertion and continued to run strongly to the wire losing to the high weight betting favourite runner out of the John Moore barn by 1 Ό lengths, and quickly galloped out past the top two finishers after the wire.
Race 9
Prance Dragon () He was bet down as the 9-5 favourite after taking a couple months away from the track. When the gates opened, he was caught standing in the gate losing at least a couple lengths to the field all the while the two runners that broke around him came together not allowing him room to gain that positioning back. Down the backside he carried his head higher than normal and never really relaxed for Rispoli, then was herded by the eventual winner Star Of Joy by van Niekerk at the top of the stretch, and yet with all the trouble was only defeated by 1 ½ lengths.
Race 10
Fearless Fire (11-1) Made a dash to the wire in his last race just to miss out by a length with Schofield aboard, now had the services of leading rider Zac Purton for the Casper Fownes runner. Took a slightly stumble forwards at the start, settled in the back third while racing two wide in the early sections of the race. He refused to settle down as was fighting Zac for the bit heading into the backside, by the time they reached the hill Purton decided to allow him to race on his own and drifted out to the three path without any cover entering the final turn, while this was going on the eventual winner Bank On Red for the John Size barn with Moreira on was saving ground waiting for the leaders to come back to him. At the 100 metre mark it looked as if he was going to be victorious but the added distance eventually took its toll on him.
Race 11
Vincy (4-1) He had won 2 out of 3 in his homeland of Australia, but when he came to Hong Kong he was placed on the Vets List before he was allowed to run. In his local debut he ran into some traffic issues and finished a very good fourth beaten by 1 Ύ lengths. Settled in the back half of the field on the backside, raced 2 wide and moved the four path entering the stretch. Zac stayed after him the entire length of the stretch while trying to chase down the Size trained Nicconi Express winner, beat the third place Pakistan Friend by 2 ½ lengths.
