BREAKING NEWS: The owners of Beholder, Spendthrift Farm, and trainer Rich Mandella are being forced to give up their Breeders Cup G1 Distaff Championship trophy and purse money.
Songbird fans have rioted across the country in protest of the stewards results of the Distaff race. Despite knowing the rules of the race prior to the running, they were unhappy they lost and demanded the outcome to be changed. They could be heard chanting #NotMyBreedersCupDistaffChampion all across America.
Even though Beholder won the race by a nose, Songbird was winning almost the whole race and only got nipped at the wire, and they are being declared co-Breeders Cup Champions.
When questioned, the race stewards stated, "We felt as though it is the right thing to do for the nation. What kind of example would the Breeders Cup be setting for horse racing, if we expected the adults who own racehorses, and the racing fans, to fully accept defeat? Instead of creating a bigger divide between the Songbird and Beholder fans, the BC is confident that the connections of Beholder will gladly share their victory trophy and purses with the owners of Songbird.
