Sitting out the election
I spent about 10 hours watching CNN yesterday. At about 3 am one of the talking heads noticed that anytime Hillary was brought up at Sander's events there was loud booing. Anyway after much discussion, they came up with the conclusion that come election day they would vote for Clinton as they had no where else to go. OK that makes pragmatic sense.
All of the talking heads were from 35 to 50 years old. A pragmatic solution was an obvious choice to them. They have jobs, houses, kids, dogs whatever.
I flashed back to a similar conversation I had with 4 other guys, all of us Anti War & liberal. We were discussing the upcoming election & one of the old guys (30?) said he was going to vote for Humphrey & I and a couple of the other guys said why. He explained Humphrey was bad but Nixon was worse. He was pragmatic. Well I & a couple of others said we weren't voting. I knew Nixon was bad, but I was too pissed off after a couple of years opposing the war. I did the March on Washington, the 68 Chicago convention, been maced, clubbed & sat upon by dogs. When I got my Greetings letter, I went on a diet of unfiltered Camels, black coffee, a can of Metrical and some diet pills for a month. I showed up for my draft physical a lean 87 pounds. On my IQ test, I drew a picture of LBJ in an obscene act. When a doctor was having trouble drawing a sample of blood from my arm, i grabbed the needle & said "I'll do that". The doctor said "stop that man-he's having a fit". I was surrounded by 3-4 Huge MPs that for some reason didn't want to get too close. The doctor called over a shrink and another doctor and looked at my paperwork and had me escorted from the building at 10am. I was pronounced 4F shortly thereafter. I wasn't pragmatic, I was passionate. I wasn't going to their war & I wasn't giving them my vote.
If I'm right, I think a lot of the younger impassioned Sanders voters are not going to be pragmatic. They won't vote Republican. They will sit it out.
The same thing is likely to happen on the other side if Trump loses on the 2nd ballot. They will feel cheated & no way they will vote for Clinton or Sanders. They will pass on this election.
In closing, I know that some here probably fought in Viet Nam. It is not my intention to insult you or belittle your efforts. I felt the war was wrong then & I think the same today. If you believed it was right and fought then I respect you for it.

Wait.
Now, hold on a second here.
You spent 10 hours watching CNN????????
Why would you do that to yourself?
I find it hard enough watching for 15-20 minutes at a time, right now.
Election saturation. With 7 months to go.........

It was a combination of waiting for the Utah total to come in & at some point I realized if I went to sleep I wasn't going to wake up at 5 am to play the 1st at Happy Valley in which I had a strong opinion on. You can see it in the selections sections.

Asian racing in the middle of the night is a far
superior way to spend time than watching CNN

I'm too old to be taking meth or cocaine. Needed some background noise to stay awake.

There is also an addictive factor. The guy says we'll be getting the results from Polk County in 15 minutes and somehow I have to see whatever happened in Polk County.
Then he says the same thing about some other county and..................

Its not that bad, a couple hours would have been Chris Mathews bashing Trump.
betovernetcapper, you are lucky to be alive after what you put yourself through 40 years ago.

If it ends up that the choices are Hillary and Donald, I will vote for the Libertarian Candidate John McAfee. Can he win? No, but I will have made my point.

Egad, I will vote for Trump. I don't like Trump, but I "hate" Hillary. I think she would eat her young to get elected.

What would happen if we had all 5 current candidates put up for election instead of narrowing down to two ....I think it may not be Trump or Hillary winning....thoughts?

In that scenario, no one would get the required 270 electoral votes, so then the GOP controlled House of Reps would vote to elect the next President . . . my guess is that the House would elect Speaker Paul Ryan to ascend to the Presidency in that case.
