I guess this is the end for Calder/Gulfstream West
The Calder Grandstand building will be demolished following the next meet to take place there.

CDI once again demonstrates the company wants to be a gaming company at the expense of horse racing.
CDI is MUD.....

Maybe they can open up Hialeah again. I miss that place. Had such good races like the Everglade and Flamingo.

I don't care for Churchill as a track but I won't be surprised if their meet end up being the first fri/sat in may and that's it.
Again, if there was a national governing body, CDI would be thrown out "IN THE INTEREST OF THE GAME". Or at the very least they would be banned from shutting down any racetracks.

If only the silliness in Tallahassee would come to an end. Then Hialeah could be granted a license to hold a Thoroughbred race meeting

If Gulfstream wasn't so greedy they should let Hialeah run the thoroughbreds during the GPW dates as a precursor to their regular quarter horse meet. 10 months of Gulfstream is more than enough.

More likely that they'd buy the governing body and run off the competition.

And then sell the property for affordable housing/commercial development or a bunch of video games that take money

Remember you're dealing with Frank Stronach who believes in free enterprise & that he should be able to open his doors for business whenever he feels like it.
When the Santa Anita winter/spring meet used to close that 3rd week in April that was fine. Now when Hollywood went away you knew Frank would covet those Triple Crown race dates, but when the season dragged on into July....... and while we got lucky this year the San Gabriel Valley can be an oven in those Summer weeks. So when closing day finally came after a 6 month marathon, I wasn't sorry to see the meet end. In fact to most out here it was a relief.

Track Bias
I just hope that Gulfstream keeps some sort of non speed favoring surface. I kept track of the bias from 12/6 through 3/29, the winter meet, and I had 9 days speed favoring, 13 days favoring closers and the rest no bias. Overall, that was a vast improvement over some of the winters where you had way too many speed biased days.
I always liked Calder, from a handicapping perspective, never been there, because it was a deeper surface that was fair to all styles.

Surprised people are so upset. I thought some of you said less tracks was a good thing?? Or is this an excuse to bitch about CD again?

It's funny how some here constantly ask for fewer tracks and lower takeout, yet there's always this "bring back Hialeah" contingent---the track that had the highest takeout in racing and was last relevant 30 years ago. But hey, flamingos.
