Very sad...very tragic day...I hate to say this, but I'm amazed more jockeys aren't killed when their horses get into trouble...

I agree, it's too easy to forget just how dangerous the job is. Very sad situation.

Copy and Pasted from article at indystar.com story.

- - Juan C.Saez ( 17 years old ) was a graduate of the Laffit Pincay Jr. Jockey Training Academy in Panama, and the younger brother of jockey Luis Saez.

In an interview with the Handicapper's Edge, Saez said he wanted to become a jockey because of his brother.

"That's why I went to jockey school," he said. "But I also want to be better than my brother." - -

So sad and tragic.... R.I.P. Juan C. Saez

Here's another article, this one from the [l]Louisville Courier-Journal[/l] http://www.courier-journal.com/story...ured/17285219/

Note the way the race set up...sounds like another horse was tiring, but didn't get out of the way of Montezuma Express (who, contrast to earlier reports, survived the accident).

Rest easy, Juan.

Condolences to all close to him.

Next time you're tempted to holler at a jock from the rail, take a breath and walk away. YOU have another race coming up in 20 minutes.
