Good draw for Omaha Beach it looks to me. With late runners on both sides he could clearly come away at the start and settle comfortably, even as an early speed type runner.

No post excuses for most. The draw doesn’t change my top plays but I might drop some from the gimmicks. I think Maximum Security got the perfect post for his style. Omaha should be sitting nice in the 12. Game Winner seems to like the outside but would have preferred him in the main gate. Improbable gets a hot gate. Glad to see Roadster drawing the cursed 17 hole.

can't get much better for Omaha Beach. Improbable will have to hustle early a bit to get in to position so a quick break is critical for him. Tacitus also perfect in the 8 gate. that's my trifecta.

Just looking back on the wet tracks back to Orb, who was PP 16, the only closer to do it, and as I said on another post, that was the 4th fastest 1/2 and 3/4 in Derby history.

Every other wet track since then (2017, 5-Always Dreaming and 2018, 7-Justify) was post 1-11 in the top 3, including 1- Lookin at Lee

In the Orb year, by the way, the second through sixth place finishers were numbers 1,2,3,4,5 (it went 3-2-4-5-1). PP 6 was 50-1 and finished 10th. Oxbow was post 1 and he finished 6th.

Just saying.

But shouldn't the order of selecting post positions be determined by the point system; i.e. the owner of whichever horse had the most points getting the first choice of post position?

This rewards the top horses, and in some cases might provide some owners with an incentive to run horses that have presumably already qualified for the Derby field to run one more time and try and get an earlier choice of post position.
