Curious for self satisfaction

I hit 5 of 6 in the p6 at Presque Isle Downs tonight. Going into the card, there was a $517 carryover. I got $1002 for 5 of 6 and the carryover is now $814. Was I the only ticket with 5 of 6 for it to pay that much?

Does anyone know how to figure this out? The posted play can be found here......http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/s...d.php?t=147088

Chart:

http://www.equibase.com/static/chart...083018USA8.pdf

It says the pool was $1572, and there was a carryover of $572. On the PID site takeout is listed as 15%. The available pool should be 1572 * 0.85 + 572 = 1908.20. They are carrying over $844, which means there should be $1064.20 that was paid out.

I guess I'm doing something a little wrong or maybe the takeout isn't exactly as is being reported, but you certainly had the only ticket.

Maybe I figured it out. The carryover is probably only in play if you are the only winner of six of six. They don't add that to the payout.

Pool 1572 - takeout = 1336.20.

Then, since nobody had the lone ticket, I'm guessing they put 25% towards the carryover.

1336.20 * .25 = 334.05

The rest is what you got...

1336.20 - 334.05 = 1002.15.

This is why these bets stink for the most part. You were really never involved for the carryover unless you hit 6 of 6 and were the only one to do so. You paid 36% takeout, which in this case isn't as bad as some of these other jackpot bets. I've seen some as high as 60%. But it will eat your lunch over time unless you are lucky enough to hit the jackpot.

Thanks CJ...I wasn't expecting to get anything when my single got beat. Sometimes it just pays to play the smaller tracks with limited tickets out there in case of a situation like this one.

I see what you're saying here. But I guess in this case since I was the only winner it still worked out in my favor.

Good point about the small tracks. It has been a while since I played them regularly but in the old days I'd often get the whole pool in P4s and even P3s sometimes just by getting one bomb on the ticket. Those days went away with the small minimums. I don't know enough about the situation now to know if there are good times to bet or not.

At the bigger tracks, there really never is unless it is a mandatory payout day and even then it is getting "less good" as people are starting to over bet the carryover.
