Damned slow accounting if you ask me.

I stopped wagering there 3 years ago!

So were these ADW disputes that caused all this just limited to Hollywood or were the other SoCal tracks in on this as well?

Mainly, I'd like to know if there's going to be a bunch of 6 horse fields at Santa Anita this winter too? If so, I'm gonna pass that meet. It was very disappointing to wait for my days off to come so I can sit out 6 out of 8 races.

The economy has taken its toll on every facet of entertainment that you can bet on.

If they double the size of the non-maiden fields, I might start betting there again. 5 horse fields suck. Big time.

California needs to raise takeout by 21.9% in order to make up for the deficit
That is between 3-3.5% on each wager for anyone keeping score.

Yeah, that's the ticket.

Purses

SoCal needs to raise purses on claiming races and some allowance races. In order to do this, purses on stakes will have to be trimmed.Horsemen are sending their lower level runners to other tracks. In a widely publicized move,Jeff Mullins sent 20 to Sunland Park, where purses are higher and expenses lower for claiming horses.Once upon a time SoCal tracks had the best purses in the land for these cheaper horse, but no longer.

17 out of the first 40 days of the Hollywood meet, nobody outside of California could wager on the product.

What do you think caused the big drop in handle? The economy, or the fact that these geniuses cut off the entire country from wagering on their product for almost half the meeting?

So, they cut off their noses to spite their faces? I killed the economy to save it?

Mike: Although I lived in So Cal for 16 years and used to especially look forward to Hollywood's Fall meet, as soon as the horsemen cut off the signal to the ADW's, I cut them off! I think it's pretty obvious that my fellow horseplayers did the same and "spoke" with their wallets, and hopefully EVERYONE in that fiasco (Drew Couto are you listening?) got the message. Those 5 horse fields a few days ago were a thing of beauty, too! Hopefully, they will wake up in California before it's too late, and horseplayers will give them another chance. But speaking personally, it will only happen on my part with the return of full fields and quality racing.................
