this is overkill
The New England Journal of Medicine never gets involved politically until now.. they are not endorsing anyone though, they just don't want Trump. they would take anyone but Trump.... this is a big one and probably will be the final nail in the coffin.

i have to agree with you here in a big way....the journal probably had other reasons to write this other than the corona..
the rest of the world has always been envious of the United States because we always took pride in our research whether medical, outer space, the oceans and the climates. we have cut the federal funding way back for research in the last few years.. the private sector has picked up most of the slack so far.

They're just milking this fake crisis for all they can get out of it.
And actually, I'm quite delighted that many so called "apolitical' or "neutral" doctors and scientists are finally letting their hair down, as well as their skirts, to shamelessly expose their nakedness before the world, and to show the everyone that their pricey, high faluting degrees and all their fancy learning, at the end of the day, makes them no different from anyone else -- I would even say not even from the common prostitute but then I would be insulting all prostitutes, wouldn't I?

They forgot to mention that lack of a lot of equipment was because previous administration never replenished it, and that we were mostly following a supposedly esteemed doctor's advice, even tho he/they were winging it on their supposed science. Even Cuomo admitted they got the wrong "model". Ask any decent handicapper whether he would use a model from a couple weeks results, which is what they did.

So President Trump stopped travel from infected foreign lands to the decry of the Democrats and Joe. And not being a dictator allowed States to inact the Federal guidelines that Dr. Fauci and the CDC came up with. Moved heaven and earth to supply PPE to all who needed them and ventilators let's not forget those. Most likely given billions to research labs to fight this China virus. But no surprise that the academics asshats would do this. This is the same type that cut and spliced this virus and let it loose on the world.

It is another nail in the coffin for those alleged apolitical institutions taking political stances, even if told in a soft tenor as the New England Journal of Medicine.
Once known unbiased organizations take political stands they forfeit their alleged non-partisan or independent cover. Forever. From here on in the NEJM's views on everything will be clouded with doubt.

Any unbiased source would never refer to COVID cases in the US as SOARING....
SOARING is ACTUALLY happening in India and Russia...go look at those graphs @ Johns Hopkins and tell me what soaring really looks like.
