By your own admission Acosta over-stepped his bounds.
The White House isn't asking to pick and choose who will be asking questions.
They are rightly asking for oversight of what is an acceptable standard of decorum from those who are asking the questions.
Acosta asked his question. It was answered. He refused to relinquish the microphone and while doing so committed a mild boundary violation of a young staffer. Who but CNN could condone that?
The WH was correct in policing that type of obstreperous behavior.
They are not taking away CNN's privileges. CNN is free to send another reporter, assuming that he or she behaves in a civil manner and accepts that the Press Gallery is not a place for rudeness.
One further point.
When I watch a President's meeting with the press, I want to hear what the President has to say more than anything.
Acosta was grandstanding. I and a million other viewers weren't there to listen to him. He was an ass.
