They are doing because they know they won't even be the the 4th best horse in the field and it is better to take the tainted win in the Derby and avoid getting thrashed in the Preakness in their view.
When was the last time,barring injury, that a Derby winner skipped the Preakness? was it Spend A Buck who went after a big bonus somewhere else?
