I believe basketball should adopt the Elam ending. Any strong feelings on this?

Aaron Rodgers says he intends to play for the Jets
he's 40 now - he had a weak season last season
but his stats were very strong in '20 and '21

I had to Google what that meant. I say no, if you had two college teams who play great defense and don't have scorers that could make for some long games.

MLB new rules

the most impactful is the new pitch clock

pitchers will have 15 seconds with the bases empty and 20 seconds with a runner on to begin their motion or they will be assessed a ball

batters not back in the box within 8 seconds get called for a strike

The new rules in MLB are going to be interesting to see how they are going to play out. There was a spring training game where the batting team had runners on base (bases loaded if memory serves) trailing by 1 run with two outs and the batter walked but was called out for violating the 8 second rule. Game over. I could see a real fan disappointment and turnoff over that happening in the regular season.

if a team wants to beat that pitch clock rule to give their pitcher more time all they have to do is have the catcher take more time before he throws the ball back

there's no clock on the catcher throwing the ball back

The pitch clock has shaved a half hour off AAA games last year and this year's mlb spring training games.
Stolen base attempts, based on the same data, are up roughly 30%, at same success rate.
Batting averages are up about .030 without a shift.

Curiously, these infielders wouldn't be allowed on the grass today vs. The Babe...

I feel strongly against the anti-shift/zone defense rules.

Don't know how I feel about the pitch clock stuff. Doesn't trigger me either way.

Haven't watched much baseball in years.

The World Baseball Classic has featured some very good baseball to watch. Last night Japan vs Mexico was a great game. Tonights final championship game between USA and Japan shapes up to be an interesting matchup.

Used to be a hardcore baseball fan from the age of 5 to 17. Now I pretty much watch the MLB World Series and the Little League World Series and that is it.

World Baseball Classic... definitely some great games and fun to watch.

Have to wonder what Mets fans are thinking right now.

Edwin Díaz injury update: Mets closer likely out for 2023 MLB season after hurting knee during WBC celebration:

The New York Mets will likely be without All-Star closer Edwin Díaz for the entire 2023 MLB season. On Thursday, GM Billy Eppler announced Díaz suffered a full-thickness tear of the patellar tendon in his right knee during Puerto Rico's on-field celebration following their win over the Dominican Republic in Wednesday night's win-or-go-home World Baseball Classic game. Díaz will have surgery Thursday and the recovery time is generally eight months.

Astros fans too.

Houston Astros All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve suffered a fractured thumb during Saturday night's World Baseball Classic game between USA vs. Venezuela and will under surgery in the coming days to mend the digit, according to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle. The Astros have not yet placed a timetable on Altuve's return, but he's certain to miss the start of the season.

My brothers likened it to the World Cup of soccer when I cited same, but I stated in that case that the analogy would be more like the Argentine side vs. the MLS Colorado Rapids.

It's basically an MLB all star team vs. a sprinkling of MLB players, with a star or two on other teams. Mexico's best, Arozarena is the 15th best outfielder projected for offense this year. Japan's Nootbaar is a third tier outfielder though on the rise, and Yoshida has some expecting 25 HR's for Boston in his MLB debut. Of course, Ohtani is studly.

The players love it and Diaz has no regrets last I read. But you know MLB management detests it.

Lakers +2 over Suns - but I don't see a + 2 on vegasinsider - the best I see is +1.5

so I will call it Lakers +1.5 over Suns - if it lands on 2 - unlikely but possible - I will call it no action
