I too thought about leaving Maryland, and then did so a little over a year ago. After being in Florida for 10 years, I thought I could move back to Maryland and be happy enough living close to family again (aging parents, etc.). I managed to make it three years, but by then I had had ENOUGH!
So, I moved back to Tampa and bought a house in my old subdivision 2 miles the Tampa Bay Downs. Florida still doesn't know if it's red or blue, but the cuban food is good, and opening day at the downs is 3 weeks away. The weather is great and the cost of living is not too bad, relatively speaking.

I live in Lincoln. It is very Red state which you would like. Housing is cheap compared to where you live. The summer are usually hot and muggy,but you are used to that. The winter usually cold, but the snow does vary greatly from year to year. There seems to be a lot of gang violence in Omaha, but here in like it sticks its ugly head out maybe 4-5 times a year. It is not too bad a place to retire if you don't mind the weather. If you are still working, the wages for all jobs here are way below average, so the bright kids leave. So we have a lot old coots like me. We are in the bidding for most new plants when ever a company does a search for a new site, but we never get one. The streets and roads are bad, but they are free. The whole horse racing thing is up in the air. The Lincoln track closed this year after its meet. That leaves 2 real track about 100 miles from Lincoln and horses are the bottom of barrel. One them is sure it wants to run next year. Some internet sites will take Ne bettors, some won't because of a badly written law. The legislature will try to help the industry next year so I am little worried about that law. The intent was to ban it when it was written. If it changed, they will ban it. One thing that won't happen is casinos here. There are 3 across the river from Omaha. All things considered, for horse player, there has to be better state to move to. Since conservatism and gambling seldom mix in politics, it might take a little work.

Some day in the not too distant future, horse players will betting on computer generated races over the net. Race tracks will become casinos and shopping centers. And some crooner will be belting out "there used to be a race track here".

I was simply going to delete your rather disgusting limerick, but then I thought I should let everyone see that you consider such things inoffensive and should be taken in "good spirit."
You recommending to cj's dad that he live in a place where the klan roams free is not totally unexpected, given who you are and what you've posted in the past, but what was surprising was that it took 60 replies before someone with extremely poor taste (ie YOU) went in this direction.
I can only surmise at this point that people who act as you do suffer from a basic lack of intelligence. A lack of ability to grasp subtle concepts. A lack of ability to distinguish shades of grey and who have a requirement to live in a world of nothing but black and white.
Where the only images that flash before you when you see the word conservative are burning crosses and lynch mobs.

In all fairness to PA, he erased one of my comments when I strayed a bit off base with offensive comments regarding Lee Harvey Oswald. I guess invoking the KKK isn't as bad as my comment was because he allowed it to stay up.
