This is what actually happened in AZ in 2009.

Arizona Law Makes Taking Account Bets a Felony:

Account wagering companies no longer are accepting wagers from Arizona residents due to a law that took effect Sept. 19.

Under House Bill 2694, any individual outside of a licensed racetrack or off-track betting facility that accepts a wager or bets on the results of a race is guilty of a class six felony, which can bring imprisonment.

HB2694 amends section 5-112 of the Arizona Revised Statutes, which provide the guidelines for pari-mutuel wagering on the results of races and regulated simulcasts. Buying, selling, cashing, exchanging, or acquiring a financial interest in a pari-mutuel ticket are all considered to be accepting a wager or betting on the results of a race.

Many representatives of the Arizona horse racing industry offered their support for HB2694 during a Feb. 15 state Committee on Water and Agriculture meeting. Among the supporters were representatives of Turf Paradise, Yavapai Downs, the Yavapai Downs County Fair Association, the Arizona Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, and the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Watching races this week, it appears there are two certainties in racing, and they are not death and taxes.

Short fields and late post times.

Almost every race seems to be long past listed post time, and with mostly 5 horse fields to load, why???

Racing has become about as exciting as baseball. And paint drying beats MLB anyday.

A "new" track opens in Arizona Downs (I know it is the old Yavapai) and they don't have a working timer. All races yesterday and the first race today are all listed as hand timed.

Just what we need, another track.

No timmer?
Come on, what collection of dimwitted fools are those people?

Day one and you are already the worst track in the country.

Tells me all I need to know about it - total joke of a track.
Not worth the bother of even looking at it.

Hope they don't have the balls to charge admission.

Some my posts over the past few weeks have been about Monmouth.

And yes, I've been calling them out for (Imo) being subpar.

In two of those posts I called Monmouth out for being subpar about the safety of the horses and riders after seeing Red Gum break down in a stakes race - a race where the horses weren't given a chance to warm up.

Here: http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/s...0&postcount=16

And here: http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/s...3&postcount=23

In this post, I'm going to call Monmouth out again.

Watch the replay of the stretch run for race 1 at Monmouth today 06-01-2019.

The race was conducted at a distance of 1 Mile 70 yds on a dirt course listed as good - meaning the starting gate was positioned in front of the grandstand.

During the running of the race the 2-1 post time favorite #7 High Flying Guy stumbled in the stretch and almost fell.

Why?

Because he stepped into the ruts along the rail created by the starting gate.

I never thought I would ever post anything like this about a major thoroughbred track:

But at this point I really have to question Monmouth's commitment to safety.

I liked the name Yavapai much better.

In the old Queens OTBs a lot of guys couldn't remember that name. When they did they weren't sure how to pronounce it. They'd go to the window and say "give me the pie track".

Look at the bright side, at least they are letting you know the times are probably wrong instead of pretending they are right.

Jeff, I saw that race.
Jock was lucky to stay on.

I immediately dumped the rest of the Mth card and moved on.
I was trying to play that track this year, but it is just to much of a S* hole track to bother with. It just joined my list of "I'd rather have a root canal then play this rat hole."

I realize Suffolk Downs is probably closing this year. (And that saddens me.)

But it also saddens me that this is what they typically show during pre-race warmups --

I've noticed for the better part of 6+ months the NYRA feed and Twinspires feed the volume is very low. Its very annoying. I would like to complain to NYRA but don't know where to lodge my complaint or if they would care.

I don't think the bridge they show instead of the horses at Suffolk is high enough for that.

But the one they show at Golden Gate instead of the horses?

High enough for that.

Equibase --

06-29-2019 Finger Lakes R7 and R8:
Right now as I type this, the Equibase cancellations page incorrectly shows that races 7 and 8 at Finger Lakes on Saturday 06-29-2019 were cancelled due to weather.

The Equibase chart data is also incorrect - and shows both races as having been cancelled due to weather.

There was zero storm activity at Finger Lakes on Saturday and both races were run. (I handicapped and bet the entire card.)

See screenshots below --

Equibase shows these stats for poor old Suffolk Downs' last card:

Attendance: 349,010
on-track handle $12,311
