ADW illegal in Illinois 1-1-13

According to this Blood Horse article, Illinois resident will not be able to wager through ADW's after Jan. 1, 2013. No one in state is opposing such wagering. There is no controversy over how it should be run. The various providers are in agreement. But the disfunctional Illinois legislature failed to bring the matter up for a vote even though it was on the agenda.

This means an inconvenience for Illinois bettors; a loss of revenue for Illinois tracks and a loss of revenue for the State of Illinois.

This isn't a Democrat or Republican thing. They are all idiots.

We are definitely in agreement on that.

Miss the days of Pinnacle. Like Edith and Archie used to sing, "those were the days". And of course Premier Turf Club can't be used by Illinoisians.

They want us to go to the OTBs where there's an additional surcharge on top of an absurd takeout.

I think the politicians have been lobbied by the local "businesses" to prevent ADWs. Anyone know why Oregon is the base for almost all ADWs (I searched on google for 10mins or so and could nt find an answer yet)? I know Oregon state tax is 0 (services and purchases tax on most items)

Perhaps the politicians could have made Illinois laws conducive to establishment of local ADWs..?

this is just (another) legislative screw up. It will be fixed very quickly I think.

Hawthorne has announced a 15% purse increase which they claim is:

"Due to the temporary suspension of advanced deposit wagering in Illinois, Hawthorne and its off-track betting facilities have handled an additional $300,000 in full card handle since its meet began Feb. 15."

Will this mean there will be significant pressure to make the suspension of ADWs permanent?

It sounds like BS to me. How do you get "additional revenue" of $300,000 in only four racing days by shutting out ADW players?

I don't understand this..their friday and sunday handle was down over 25% from the friday and sunday from 2012. They never did release saturday's handle.

But the track gets a huge cut of all the money bet at the state tracks and OTBs. I would think it might be possible considering they get next to nothing from the ADWs.

According to the Equibase chart their total on-track handle yesterday was $40,000. Last Sunday was $75,000. As noted above, no handle was reported in the chart for last Saturday. Signal fees from the ADW's are typically in the 6% to 9% range. Where they don't get much is from the other tracks as they give them a reduced fee much lower than the ADW's.

For something that should be fairly standard and easy to find, it seems ADW fees are something of a mystery. I always thought that only 3.5% went to the host track. Of that, half went to purses. I never seem to find the definitive answer. Saying that, I accept that I could be way off. But those figures could make sense if the ADW % is substantially lower than what HAW gets in state.

You will find out how much marijuana is grown in the footshills of the Sierras before you find out who get what from an ADW bet. This is most closely guarded secret in racing.

I'm not sure I agree with the $300k figure either, but you have to think they have are seeing more revenue, at the very least, at their OTBs in the suburbs with people in IL being forced to bet at either the tracks or the OTBs now.
