That's winter racing for you. The racing environment, in the winter, can change dramatically, very quickly.

That's gambling. If you won all the time they would call it winning. I'm going to take a few days off and just watch and play the gapfire challenge. Need to clear the head and restart fresh.

In general, what is the difference between major track wagering and minor track wagering except the quality of the horses?

Basically information, at the major tracks you buy trip reports, WO info, Computer pace ratings and ton of other stuff. If you want it for a minor track , you have to compile that stuff yourself.

I used to be into and do well at Ohio racing but it stinks these days.I only play River Downs when I'm ontrack during the summer.Beulah at the beginning of their fall meet and in April.

Turf Paradise.

That's about it these days.I don't like night or winter tracks.What minor tracks start this time of year no later than 3 PM EST in warmer climates?

Pool sizes.

At Canterbury, for example, the pick 4 pools are between $4k-7k compared to 100 times that at major tracks. The advantage is fewer "good" handicappers are playing and the casual fans play mostly favorites, so even one longshot can take home the whole pool.

And of course WPS pools. "A $500 win bet into California or NY's pools won't effect the odds on a 5-1 ML horse as much as at a minor track." said Mr. Obvious.

When I handicap a turf race with most horses who've never run on grass, I look up their breeding. At major tracks most if not all have good to great breeding. At small tracks there might be only one or two, and if they have poor dirt races, the odds will be generous.

there are many things you can look at but one of the big ones for me is easy throwouts. Sometimes at beulah for instance in a ohio bred maiden race, three of the seven horses entered can be tossed...its amazing how often the other four will run 1,2,3,4. Apply a bit of handicapping and make some easy cash.

My racing information comes from BRIS and should be the same for major or minor tracks. I haven't studied minor tracks as much as I should have. There's just not enough time for every study. However, minor tracks are on my list to study.

For pratical purposes, the information from Bris is the same for major and minor tracks. There is information out there that Bris doesn't have. Most of it is not available for minor tracks although things like Ragozin's Sheets have greatly increased the number of tracks they cover in the last few years.

To me it seems easier to throwout non contenders at a minor track. That said I look for a track with large fields and rolling pick 3's. Evangeline Downs fits the bill for me after handicapping the major tracks on summer afternoons.

One pick 3 or pick 4 at EvD can make me show a profit for the entire meet. Just don't be afraid to eliminate the morning line favorites who are bet way too heavily in horizontal bets compared to their post time odds.

I did like Tampa when it was more of a minor track but nowadays its an extension of Monmouth and Woodbine.

Turfway I try to stay away from and it's not cause of Battaglia's voice. I remember calling the Harness Racing Hotline and hearing Mike's voice summarize the previous nights racing.
