My understanding is that it is an entity that agrees to place substantial wagers in exchange for significant rebates.
That usually is manifest in teams of people who make extensive use of computers and fire their bets through a special access.

The last one is part of it, but there are two much bigger parts.
First, this is kind of a 1A to the above, is the ability to fire many bets at the last possible second. The second is being able to do so while getting a much better price because of rebates.
The CAWs are playing a very different game than us, and it is at our expense. There are some playing at effective takeouts of less than 5% in my very informed opinion, and they are also essentially playing fixed odds when they bet.

How about this: say 1 minute to post, the track stops posting all pool dollars. They still take the bets up until the gates open.

In my opinion, that would be worse.

It would be better to not post them at all than this.

No, no, no. The main thing horse players live for is nformation. You have got to bring them to the table.

You don't bet, therefore you don't know what we are talking about. Please try to stay on topic.

there are plenty of guys using computers to fire in wagers, but less than 10 people have direct terminal consul access to wagering pools. those are the guys that are doing the damage.
the last time i was offered a seat at the CAW table, they told me i had to buy a consul for $40,000 to get with the program and had to guarantee $25 million in wagers during the course of 1 year. i declined.

True I dont bet, but I probably put more time recording and analyzing tote board data, on a daily basis, than most if anyone here. I also have an extremely large database of toteboard data.
I earned my wings a long time ago.. ugh!!! .
And if I can go from CAA To CAW, then 24/7. 365 days a year.
Not for the money, but for the winning

I've had offers way lower than that, including $20k per year and the ADW will pay for it if I bet "enough."

Of course, I know you are correct.
Just wanted to make sure everyone else thought the same thing.

This is the crux of the problem.
2nd biggest problem is field size
